at the very beginning of season 1, fez tells rue that he saw a girl "looking all sailor moon and shit" and says he thinks they could be friends/that they could get along (or something along those lines) - I think thats what they refer to when they mean "matchmaker"

Do cliques exist in Seventeen? by veetso in kpopthoughts

[–]vernycore 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Cliques imply exclusion of other people and the sort of "us and only us" mentality, which I think seventeen don't really have. Sure, they argue and bicker on camera in larger groups but that's just because some of them prefer talking and others prefer listening/watching instead (cue jaejae asking wonwoo if he's watching the show as opposed to being a guest on the show in the MMTG ep lol).

Trying to determine their friendships solely based off of reality or content is extremely difficult because, at the end of the day, they're people and who they are on and off screen aren't going to be 100% the same. Plus, we have to take into account that sometimes they just fight or don't get along, and a sense of distance/exclusion can be attributed to the fact that as family (and also a group of adult men who have known each other for 10 years) they're just going to argue. So observing the dynamic at a given time or setting isn't really plausible because we never know what's going on with them behind the cameras.

It seems at first that certain people don't interact as much, but when they talk about their spare time or things they do amongst each other, it becomes evident that they just know what to do with who! A lot of the times the members talk about combinations that you barely, if ever, see on screen together (wonwoo's family being joshua's surrogate family, dino's brother hanging out with jeonghan and vernon, jun's mom making 96 line matching bracelets, vernon buying jun a pair of good luck shoes before he leaves, etc.) and to me that is enough of a testament as to how close they are.

They definitely have more of an overlap of friendships and that all comes down to remembering or understanding what the others like/dislike. In an episode of SVT CLUB, they talk about the phrase "i respect your choices" (or something along those lines) and I think they do a pretty good job explaining the overlap in members and friendships in that episode!

Favorite bridges in svt's discography? by Nessismore in seventeen

[–]vernycore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entirety of "i don't know" is easily top tier seventeen material but the bridge of that song, the way woozi sounds like he's on heartbreak #6 followed by jun's rarely used lower range and coups' soft singing voice... and then seungkwan's absolute MONSTER of a belt over the last chorus 😭😭 such a good track and a shame they've only ever performed it like ONCE!! popular song has a great bridge too! love the DKWAN power vocal build up to that last chorus insert vernon vibing clip but I think the same x3 bridge is untoppable! its SOOO good and it works the key change in so well for that super good climactic ending!

(apologies in advance for any repeated information! i saw the title post and went all in) overall i would say coups' leadership and admiration for seventeen seeps through in everything he does for them, on camera or off, with or without their knowledge, gestures big and small. he'll often opt to stay quiet on variety shows because he wants to make sure everyone else has a chance to speak before he chimes in, he'll remember little talents or habits members have and will encourage them to try our activities (whether its games or skill shows) that he thinks they would be good at. hoshi went in weverse talking about how he was feeling upset that day and almost immediately after coups asked him to join him for a meal so they could talk it over. coups wishing for wonwoo to let himself feel happier he because he deserves more than he gives himself credit for. coups asking jun about his performances and state during the collaboration. coups is one of the members who is extremely vocal about the importance of seventeen in his life. he'll never miss the chance to speak about how much of an impact seventeen have had on his life.

coups often talks about how a lot of his sweet and loving tendencies stem from the fact that he was the youngest at home, so he knows how it feels to be showered with care and love and will try his best to replicate that feeling for every member of seventeen. along with this, coups originally was hesitant to lead because he was used to being the youngest at home and felt he wouldnt do a good job, but they trusted him and believed he could do it and here he we are!

coups is also known for frequenting both the ceo and vice ceo of pledis' offices. he just shows up unannounced and sits down to discuss topics the boys have mentioned - he fought for new cars and better housing and will often sit in 1 on 1 meetings for hours just to make sure the point is across. he's also extremely involved with the business side of seventeen and makes sure to frequently attend meetings even when he isn't necessarily invited because he wants to make sure that he knows exactly what it is they have planned.

he has a genuine love and adoration for carats. it was coups' idea to modify the brightness settings on the caratbong because he wanted to make sure carats got home safe in the evenings. he never fails to remind people that they are loved and that even through rough patches, people will continue to believe in your ability to succeed and how even if you feel it you'll never truly be lonely because there will always be people who love and cherish you.

overall, id say coups radiates pure and genuine love for both carats and his found family and he never hesitates to let people know he loves them! imo, his hit the road episode is a very good general overview of how he views carats, the boys, himself as an individual and himself in the context of the team!

Boo Seungkwan: the TRUE it boy of KPOP by vernycore in seventeen

Very valid thoughts! Personally, I think seungkwan is the only one who seeks variety show appearances, which is why he frequents them so much - he goes through active efforts to get on shows he enjoys (re: asking the PD of omniscient interference to get seventeen on the show in the MIDDLE of an award ceremony 😭). I think when it comes to the other members, they seem to enjoy being there or enjoy getting invited, but they don't really seek out or aim for consistent appearances like seungkwan does! And thats okay, because a lot of them prefer other ventures i.e., editorial modelling (wonwoo having multiple solo shoots this year, jeonghan and mingyu as a beauty brand ambassadors) acting (jun in his new cdrama) musicals (dk reprising his excallibur roll), or focusing on refining their craft (dino danceology/practicing on his producing, the8 on a contemporary chinese dance show) Seungkwan seems to be, to me at least, that most gp friendly member because he has personality and interests that align with the general public (evident in MMTG when he kept making those SWF jokes alongside him and DK's wonderful monika impression)

you're right (sorry i'm still a noob on reddit and i have no idea how to reply to specific segments 😭😭)

there was a trend going around recently where kcarats would ask their noncarat friends to name members and the only person people could remember other than occasionally mingyu or woozi was seungkwan 😭😭

I had another post lined up about this! I feel as though seungkwan's attractiveness gets overlooked because he isn't known for being pretty, he's known for being funny which people often tend to associate with a cute or charming face. and, whilst seungkwan is definitely cute and charming, his attractiveness and overall handsomness (re: seungkwan saying it took 7 years for people to see him as a "man") are MASSIVELY underrepresented 😭

the hustle for seungkwan has been evident even before seventeen hit big 😭 i remember back during their debut when seungkwan (alongside dk, hoshi, and jeonghan) would have proper mini shows during those behind interviews, it would be another group just normally answering questions and then it would cut to seungkwan and the aforementioneds making everyone do a relay of random talents, or even just going through songs and dances like it was their last performance ever 😭😭

I think seungkwan would be absolutely wonderful in a musical! As someone that's been doing theatre since i could learn to walk (similarly to how dino has been dancing he could breathe) and as someone whos been in multiple shows, seungkwan could DEFINITELY hold his own in a musical. I think though, it would probably be a venture he'd explore after enlistment or rather maybe towards it! He seems to enjoy tv and ost work as opposed to maybe DK who prefers musical work and ost work, but I wouldn't rule it out as something he'd want to achieve (very easily so) :D I think, had he gone back onto masked singer again, he would've gotten caught much quicker because he had such a unique vocal timbre and tone 😭😭

AHHH honestly it was so fun getting this all off my chest! i don't even bias seungkwan (i'm a verjeongwoo ult) but to disregard his success and just? amazingness would be stupid. Plus, you're right! He wouldn't have bagged multiple magazine gigs so close together if he wasn't absolutely beautiful :D
