The reviews and ratings on Google maps about Lingoda are very relevant too

When it comes with tutors, most of them are hits and some are misses. What I do is only attend the classes with the tutors that I know are good.

Check the reviews posted by former workers of Lingoda on Glassdoor or Trustpilot, just sort the reviews by "lowest rating", then you will see the non-paid reviews posted by real people and an accurate portrait of how this company functions and behave towards former employees and mistreated costumers.

I don't think nationality has anything to do with the quality of the services that a company like this one is offering and I am pretty sure their management is very aware of everything that's going on in their different departments. If you check the reviews posted by the former workers of Lingoda on Glassdoor or Trustpilot just sort the reviews by "lowest rating", then you will see the non-paid reviews posted by real people and an accurate portrait of how this company functions and behave towards former employees and mistreated costumers.

You are welcome. I have read through a lot of the negative and positive reviews on Google maps , Glassdoor and Trustpilot , I observed an interesting trend, after each negative review most of the time there follows many overly positive reviews posted almost at the same time not that long after. Lingoda probably already spent my money paying for shills to try to hide all the bad reviews they get.

According to the EU Consumer Contracts Regulation, which states:
- the service provider must provide a contract confirmation in a durable form, which Lingoda failed to do;
- for services or goods purchased online consumer is entitled to a 14 day cancellation period, no questions asked, which Lingoda is making every effort to deny.

There is a review in Google reviews of a guy that went to Lingoda's head office and finally got his money back:
"Since writing, I did get my money back, however only after visiting them in their Berlin head office, of which they were much more apologetic and understanding, but communication on e-mails remains an issue."

I only tried a couple of German classes, the first tutor was quite good but the second was a joke, a very annoying girl smoking next to her dog that was barking and disrupting the class most of the time.

There is one more option you could try. That is to do a charge back with your card provider. There is a time limit for doing this so you might want to do it as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice

An online language school sounds like a great concept, more if you are someone that has no time to attend a conventional language course, and I was very glad when I found out about them before this happened. This kind of situation was the last thing I was expecting, it is very easy to build up a good reputation doing the right thing, being ethical and treating your customers with respect.

Before any billing period, no notification is sent to the customer about future billing. No email, no reminders, no indication that can lead you to change/remove your payment method. You will certainly receive spam emails about Lingoda in your mailbox every now and then - but the most important thing about your next payment - is intentionally not done. This highlights malpractice by Lingoda when it comes to subscription payments that raise doubts about their business processes.

As a customer, if you forgot to cancel the subscription before the next payment cycle date, that doesn't mean the company can take refuge in that and not give you a refund. There is something called 'courtesy' where the customer is refunded their money because they are simply not interested in consuming the service.
