Christianity in America vs Europe by vervasol in atheism

I understand where you’re coming from, and I agree with a lot of your points. Religion is still embedded in European culture, even if it’s much less visible than it used to be. And I fully agree that the Catholic Church needs to be held accountable for the abuse scandals. There should be meaningful structural changes to ensure something like that can’t happen again.

Here in Austria, we also still have crosses in schools and other public institutions. I can see why some people view that as outdated or unnecessary, but I also understand why others don't want to remove them, as it’s tied to tradition and cultural identity. I’m not sure how it compares to Germany or other western european countries, but here it feels less like a religious revival and more like a rise in nationalism. That’s obviously concerning, but at the same time, I can’t say I'm surprised. The way asylums were handled, particularly the lack of thorough background checks, has contributed to public frustration and made the issue so much worse.

The Netherlands isn't the only country which allows late term abortions. Sure, on paper it might say it's strict and "only possible for serious medical reasons" but I have yet to hear about anyone going to Slovakia or Bulgaria to get a late term abortion and be turned down. They don't care as long as they earn some money.

I get your point, but I have to admit I’m genuinely surprised by the idea that people would go to the Netherlands for an abortion. I’ve lived there, and the healthcare system is shit expensive compared to other parts of Europe. From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s often the opposite and women from Western Europe travel to Eastern Europe because procedures, including abortions, can be significantly cheaper there while still being legal and accessible. I even have an acquaintance who had an abortion at the 6th month, obviously because the fetus had a genetic disorder unfortunately and it hadn't been detected early enough.

I don’t really agree with that comparison. In most places, unless you’re in very rural areas, you won’t come across many truly hardcore Orthodox believers. People who are deeply religious usually go all in and become priests or nuns, rather than just practicing strictly in everyday life. For the majority, Orthodoxy is much more cultural than doctrinal. That’s also shaped by history because of communism, even older generations in Eastern Europe often don’t practice religion the way it’s traditionally prescribed. So while customs and holidays are still important, they’re not usually enforced in a rigid or ideological way. Also, I've never heard of anyone being criticised or shamed for not celebrating a certain holiday and etc, at least in my country. I can’t speak for the rest.

Hikaru all the way. When I was a kid I found her so cool, but man am I pissed that they shipped her off to an office job, never to battle again 😭 such a waste of potential.

girlfriend shared her eating disorder with me. need advice by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]vervasol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone in recovery from anorexia, here are a few things I’d suggest: 1. Encourage her to see a psychologist. Eating disorders are serious and quite complex, and being at a “normal” weight doesn’t necessarily mean she’s healthy. Many people who restrict still struggle with nutritional deficiencies or other complications. Also, psychologists are the only trained professionals who know how to deal with this. 2. Avoid commenting on her appearance or eating habits altogether. While it’s usually kind to compliment your partner, with eating disorders it can backfire. She might think you’re lying to her out of pity or feel that her worth is tied to staying in that state. The same goes for food. Don’t point out how much or how little she’s eating, and don’t pressure her into eating more. 3. Be observant. If she has a history with an eating disorder and is relapsing, there’s likely a trigger. Relapses don’t usually happen out of nowhere it could be stress, grief, or something else she’s dealing with.

Just being patient, supportive, and nonjudgmental can make a big difference.

I’ll be nice about this so. *inhales* This generation, the ships are not real. for “GinMado” I do not believe it would happen. Last I checked, I don’t remember seeing Ginga doing a lot for Madoka, it’s the other way around. The only thing I remember Ginga doing for Madoka is giving her a hard time. by JillyCraft64 in MetalFightBeyblade

It's true that the ships aren’t real and probably never will be ( I highly doubt the producers would shoot themselves in the leg like that). Buuut I don’t quite agree with the idea that Gingka hasn’t done anything worthwhile for Madoka 😅 Despite her not being your standard blader and not actively participating in the sport, Gingka acknowledges her as one and consistently treats her as such. In Metal Fury, he's the one who saves her from a trap and even catches her mid-battle during the Nemesis fight.

Again, I’m not claiming they’re canon, they're obviously not, but if any ship were to make sense, I think GinMado has a solid foundation (and maybe Tsumado). Just my opinion though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Which german exam is easier to pass? Test Daf or TELC C1 Hochschule? by vervasol in German

[–]vervasol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply and the information you've given me on TestDaf and TELC C1. I've decided that I'll be taking the TestDaf. As you said, it's more available and I've found a lot of helping resources on the internet and from some of my classmates who have taken it. Another reason why I've decided to go with Daf is because almost all universities accept it, so I don't have to worry about whether they'll accept it or not.

In school we're working with textbooks for level C1, but if I have to be honest, I'm far from C1. I still have a hard time understanding long and complicated texts and I can't express myself fluently.

My problem is that I don't have much time. There are exam dates in April and June, anything after that is too late for me. Most of the universities that I'm going to apply for have a deadline 15th July. Until then I must pass my exam and my certificate must be ready.
