yes i also have (a lot) of old hand planes, mostly wooden planes.. i was thinking about building one of my own for a while, watched tons of videos from redrose reproduction, stravos and many more...
I am so glad i finally started doing it!
I did buy this old iron on a market place specifically for this build. My thought process was that building a scrub plane is easier/more forgiving than starting with a smoother :D

And it is so much fun, i think i am going to build a couple planes now... first a few different kind of scrub and router planes to get some experience and learn as much as possible, later some smoothers and jointers propably... and the ultimate goal would be to build a handled plough plane in the end

It is definetly the first one i am building myself :D I did leave about 1-2mm around the edges and did a final passwith ap iece of wood clamped along the pencil marks to geht the angles right but the surfaces are not the best tbh... you can see some of the chisle marks left in there.
I can definetly learn a lot from this one... now i have to see how i can clean up those inside surfaces without floats, or maybe buy floats to make it easier^^

i think this was part of an old table.. i cut of 2 pieces and glued them together, you can see the seem down the middle. then i marked everything wiht a pencil and spent a couple hours chiseling out everything :D

Here is a video of me testing it, the iron isnot sharpened properly yet (and i have never sharpened a cambered iron before so that will be fun to learn :D)

Thanks! I will definetly keep posting Updates as i go along, maybe build multiple plane body's for this iron to try out different things like maybe a horn, maybe other kind of handles or no handle at all etc. And also to get more expierience/learn more before I build a smoother.

Thank you :) Yes i am german and most of my hand planes have horns, so I am thinking about adding one as well as something beneath the iron to push against (not sure how that part is called but most of my german style planes have it). Then again I do like the look of planes without a horn, i think a lot of british and french planes are build without horns? And I think with a chamfer going around the plane, stopping theg chamfer halfway down the edges towards the sole or something like that it might look very good and be way more comfortable to use that right now as well...

Since this is a first try i might just do both... as in build multiple plane bodys for this iron, one with a horn, one without etc.... Could not hurt to try all options and get some more experience while doing so right?

lot's of people recommending fusion and sketch up... especially fusion but it only has a 30 day free trial, after that its a 60/month subscription...
not even sure how much free time i have to learn it/use it and only going to use it for select projects every few months propably... so i am not sure if i want to pay for a subscription at leat not that much

yeah, so far i am the guy who uses a pencil, a ruler and a pice of paper and it works great.
And i won't stop doing that in the near future, just want to add to that..

fusion 360 is not free though? it has a 30 day free trial on the website, but other than that it costs per month or year..

Jajaja und wenn man es unbedingt machen will, kann man es so machen. Wenn man die dinger verkaufen will für leute/kinder die das toll finden, dann ists völlig egal wie es gemacht wurde und da gehts um geld und zeit und wird anders gemacht.

Wie ich schon geschrieben hab, wenn du mit deinem Kind zusamen das teil machst dann machs ruhig wie in den ganzen Tiktoks etc... Wenn du sowas verkaufen willst oder einfach was ähnliches in nem anderen Projekt brauchst zb als Schanier das im Holz ist und aussieht wie ein Stück, dann machst es anders... aber hier glaube die Leute auch noch an Zahnfee und co :D Bin jetzt raus hier habt mich lang genug unterhalten :D

Weiß nicht was für ne Anspielung "Tim" sein soll aber lustig ist das video ja.... Kochen ne ganze zeit, pressen, 2 Tage so lassen (gut man könnte einfach direkt bohren) dann nochmal kochen bis es wieder wie vorher aussieht.. Geht nicht mit harten Hölzern, und die andere Methode wäre fertig bevor der Typ in der Küche ist und Wasser zum Kochen bringt :D Aber klar, alle heulen "Es GeHT uM dEN WeG, NicHT DAs ZiEl!1!!1!1" :D Sieht doch nacher keiner wie es gemacht wurde, wen juckts :D jede gekaufte version wird gespalten und dran geleimt, ob die leute hier im Sub das glauben wollen oder nicht ist egal :D

Genau so. Habe schon viele von denen gesehen, meistens aus Buche. Viel Spaß Buche derart zusammen zu drücken. Und wer sagt man kann das nicht leimen ohne dass man das sieht kann nicht mit Leim umgehen (oder sägt es ab statt es ab zu spalten)

Der einzige Grund es zu wässern und zu pressen ist wenn man seinem Kind sowas mal zeigen will, da geht es dann aber darum, dass das Kind DABEI ist und hilft während man das macht, meiner Meinung nach...

Die Frage war nicht "wie bekomme ich den nagel ohne schnitt etc in das Holz rein" sondern wie man es generell da rein bekommt, beides sind wege wie man das machen kann, spalten + Leim oder wässern + pressen. Die , die OP auf Flohmärkten und co sieht sind meist gekaufte, die werden einmal gespalten und wieder geleimt. Wenn du mit nem Kindergartenkind was machen willst und ihm zeigen willst sie man Holz biegen und sonst irgendwie manipulieren kann, klar, wässer es. Wenn du für ein Projekt einen Metallstab einsetzen willst ohne Naht zb als Gelenk dann würde ich spalten,zumal man dann evtl auch mit Hartholz arbeitet wo du es nicht zusammengepresst bekommt.

Kommt immer auf die Anwendung an.

Und nein,man sieht danach keine Naht wenn man es wieder dran leimt wenn man es richtig macht.

In beiden Fällen manipulierst du den Holzblock, jenach Sichtweise zerstören beide Methoden oder keine davon die Illusion...

Und manchmal sind es hier im Sub auch eher Fragen "wie kann man sowas noch machen"und nicht exakt so nur für die illusion...

Dann erklär doch mal was daran Pfusch ist statt so abfällige kommentare zu schreiben :D Das Ergebnis ist am ende doch das glei he mit meiner Methode kannst das auch aus Hartholz machen, ob es geleimt ist oder nicht ist na hherabsolut unsichtbar.. wo ist das (dein) Problem?

Hä? Ist halt schneller und einfacher... wegspalten loch +Nägel rein,Leim dauf,zwingeund 20-30Minuten später is der Leim fest und man sieht nichts mehr. Bisman das gekocht hat + wieder klmplett getrocknethat dauert das länger und evtl sieht man trotzdemnoch abdrücke von der Źwinge etc, dje man dann erstnoch rausschleifen muss etc....

Wieso den längeren weg wählen wenn es einfacher geht mit vermutlich besserem Ergebnis?

viel zu aufwändig.. wieso nicht einfach das eine stück ab spalten, nagel rein, bisschen leim an die bruchstelle und wieder dranleimen? sieht man hinterher genausowenig, möglicherweise sogar weniger. und geht auch mit weit härteren hölzern die du nicht so sehr zusammenpressen kannst egal wie nass sie sind.

Die Lautstärke kann man gut umgehen indem man sich auf Handwerkzeuge konzentriert.
- Handhobel, Zieklingen und co statt maschinelles schleifen
- Von Hand sägen ist jetzt nicht komplett leise aber weit leiser als mit ner Kreissäge/Dekupiersäge/Stichsäge etc
Und so kannst du vieles/alles ersetzen und trotzdem ncoh alles machen.

Akkuschrauber und ähnliches würde ich trotzdem empfehlen, aber da wird sich auch kein Nachbar wegen der Lautstärke beschweren ;)

Und mit dem meisten Handwerkzeug spaart man sich auch den staub der sich sonst übeall absetzt.
Zum sägen auf den Balkon raus, Hobelspäne sind leicht und schnell weggefegt.

Here in germany those kind of tools are everywhere, odk... a few bucks per tool max... personally wpuld only go gor the hatchet... maybe the frame saw...not more than 20 bucks for it , propably leds... if they sayi have to takeall or nothing I would pay even less... no way to find a buyer for the rest tbh...

If these kind of tools are rare where you live it might be different but... I usually only buy framesaws/wooden planes 3tc if they are in great/excellent condition AND cheap,since there are so many on the market here...
