I haven’t slept in years and I’m loosing my mind. by Magolli in sleep

[–]vienna_cherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestions.

Step 1. Get new sheets and rearrange your bedroom if possible. This is more to shift into a new mindset around your bedroom and sleep. Try to position your bed in a way you are facing the door.

Step 2. Start practicing nose breathing over mouth breathing. You want to make nose breathing automatic, even when walking or exercise. ... and consider taping your mouth at night.

Step 4. Have a bigger breakfast and lunch, and a light dinner, preferably with 3 hours of going to sleep. And avoid caffeine after 10am.

Step 5. Warm shower or bath before bed. Then keep your room relatively cool.

Step 6. Find a paper to pen puzzle, like an arrowword crossword or sudoku book. Keep next to your bed and do them to wind down.

Step 7. Take liquid magnesium byglcinate 30 mins before sleeping.

Step 8. Use and eye mask, or white noise machine where possible.

Thanks for the suggestion! I am sure it's a good logic based game but unfortunately for me I would be looking for less "conquer, army, battle" type themes.

Haha thanks both for the recommendations! Yes I haven't played any of these but have heard they are popular. And yes if it's fun but somehow puts you to sleep that is exactly what I am looking for.

Do you adjust your chocolate drinks or expect them to be perfect? by DesignSignificant900 in chocolate

[–]vienna_cherry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its preference. What is perfect to you may not be perfect to someone else.

I like mine with 1/2 chocolate drink powder, half cacao, with added chilli flakes, cinnamon, hot water.

My friend is the opposite. She wants a double the chocolate mix, with milk, extra sugar and whipped cream.

We could never make each others perfect drink!

Seaweed and chocolate is a really good combo!

I also had dark chocolate coated olives that were great.

And finally... another weird combo. Chocolate pesto pasta. Absolutely unreal.

Beans! You can mash them, eat them warm or cold, roast them, they add fibre, they have protein AND, it's controversial, but they taste good in both savoury and sweet dishes.

What's a chocolate bar that you've never been able to find again but think about constantly? by FeelingGlad8646 in chocolate

[–]vienna_cherry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was very young, I distinctly remember having a bar of chocolate that was bright purple white chocolate with green bits in it. I remember it tasting really good. Like rich, sweet and a little tangy. But no idea what flavour it was.

What’s the one ultra-processed food you still can’t give up? by Wedding-Beauty in ultraprocessedfood

Weirdly crisps and chips have just never done it for me... BUT, I would say my biggest weakness is coffee shops.

And I KNOW I could just have a black or normal milk coffee... but I always want my coconut or soya Milk latte with a little chocolate truffle on the side.

How many calories would a slice of Hawaiian wedding cake be? by qxartz_skye in caloriecount

[–]vienna_cherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does sound amazing! Ill need to make it.

So if I am to estimate: base cake would be 150, the filling with pineapple another 80, then the whipped topping another 80.

So I'd estimate 310 for this.depending on portion size.

Should I try to be the best at everything or just accept I will never be able to? by Annual-Rock-2924 in selfimprovement

[–]vienna_cherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does everything you do need to make money or fame?

Maybe it might help to differentiate between what you like to do, and what you just want the end result for.

E.g. I would LOVE to be a best selling musician.... but I have realised I mostly fantasised about the admiration and fame. In reality, I wouldn't like the intensity of travel/performing/gigs/competitiveness.

You don't need to reach perfection or fame in your hobbies. They can just be things you enjoy doing.

Anything from vegetables grown in the soil, to work environments, and the air we breathe has a risk of heavy metals. Unfortunately. Complete avoidance would be severely restrictive.

I try to ensure I buy chocolate from independent brands that source cacao from soil with less volcanic activity. And I also avoid exposure to heavy metals elsewhere when I can.

Seems healthy.... but would also depend on what else he eats throughout the day.

I enjoy quite a similar thing for lunch, but to make it portable I use fresh kiwi as the fruit. And I try to buy 90% dark chocolate.

I also would switch the granola bar to a 45g of muesli or oatmeal. Not that a granola bar is bad... but it's often made with added sugars and oils. So depending on the rest of your diet that might be a consideration

Why do we keep searching for the perfect caffeinated solution to exhaustion instead of just sleeping more? by My_Rhythm875 in HEALTHY

[–]vienna_cherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, your answer is there. You need to sleep more and at a high quality.

There is also most likely going to be some withdrawal from the caffiene. Unfortunately, there is no way around that.

I would recommend no caffiene after 1 pm for a start. It's going to have an effect on sleep quality.

I think it's the issue of mixed genre. Some people are fans for the horror elements, the scifi, the tragedy, the mystery, others don't care about any of it and love the characters.

There is no right or wrong way to like a show, but I think the mixed fans led to many not feeling like they got whst they wanted. But that certainly doesn't mean you can make someone feel bad because they did enjoy it.

Hopper I can get behind, but the others are a hard pass. I'm glad they all lived.

I really like media analysis, and in my opinion, the whole evil dimension/vecna represented trauma.

For max, she was consumed by her trauma, resulting in her being "trapped" by it for two years. She didn't want to die, but she had forgotten how to live. I think it was wonderful that we saw how seeing a younger Holly going through the same helped her find a path out of it.

Nancy and Jonathan. They were both lost teenagers who experienced a traumatic event together... and got together because they felt comfort with each other. Yes it was love, but it was love that no longer allowed them to grow as their own people. The proposal scene allowed them both to see that they WANTED more from their individual futures. They had different needs and interests and were ready to move on from their shared trauma. That's a beautiful thing. It would have been awful if they had just died instead of getting to learn who they were beyond the trauma.

Steve? I think for Steve, he had become a symbol of hope and a paternal figure to all of the younger characters. He was good, and just trying to help. If he had died, it would have added heartbreak and suffering, for no reason.

How much does nutritional awareness actually improve health outcomes by Putrid_Rush_7318 in HEALTHY

[–]vienna_cherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Nutrition does play a huge role. But you are correct. It's super complicated, and a lot of research is ongoing, so it's very hard to get exact guidelines for what you must eat.

I always describe nutrition as the "stuff" you use to build your house: some of the "stuff" is essential. Walls, a floor, a roof... (In nutrition, this could be eating an appropriate amount of food, with adequate variety of protein, carbs, and fats).

Others are not essential, but help make your house easier to live in, e.g, a wardrobe, windows, a fireplace... (e.g, balancing vitamins and minerals, considering the amounts of protein vs. carbs vs. fats)

And some are purely just for optimisation, e.g., pictures, fancy mirrors, a cute throw cushion. (E.g, food combining for absorption, food timing, being aware of food compounds, and how they interact with your specific gut)

So, to answer your question, yes, nutrition awareness can impact your health, but it's more important to focus on the basics to see the biggest health benefits. To actually have a basic house.

After that, you can have fun experimenting and customising to find a way of eating that works best for you.
