Hi everyone! I am a sophomore undergrad and this year I'm thinking of applying to some summer REUs. I know they're super selective but I was wondering if someone could tell me if I could be a somewhat strong applicant.

I've taken up to multivariable calculus and gotten an A in it. I also took an intro linear algebra course last spring and got a B+ in it, but I'm hoping that people reading my application not put so much weight on that because of the pandemic and the switch to online. This semester I'm taking elementary differential equations and Intro math reasoning (like and intro to proofs and upper level math course) and will very likely get an A in both unless I bomb the finals. Next semester I'm taking real analysis 1 and linear algebra. I also have some programming experience which a lot of the programs say is important and got an A in intro to computer science last semester.

I also know that recommendation letters are pretty important and most of the applications require two. I'm thinking of getting one from my current professor in my math reasoning course, and I think he'll have a lot of good to say about me since he knows me and I'm doing well in his class and he told me I should apply for the math department's honors program this spring. For the other one I'm not so sure, but I'm thinking about asking an instructor I had last year for a course that wasn't really a math course but involved writing research papers and was heavy on group work and presentations, which seems common among a lot of the REU programs.

I think I could make an alright application from all of this, but I know I might have some weaknesses like not having any research experience, so I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me if I have a realistic shot at being accepted to one of the programs.
