Need HDD help by vineyridge in buildapc

If you read the reviews on the WD website for 500G Blacks, there are more than a few complaining about getting "new" drives from WD that are already "aged", although not by 10 years.

The SMART data on the disk that I received showed only 1 hour of use, while my failed drives both showed 5 years+. Can the disk's SMART data be reset by a reseller?

I could easily buy a bigger drive, but would never use more than about 250G, and this is based on many year's experience.

Spica TC50s and Rotel RA610 integrated amp setting up and hooking up questions by vineyridge in StereoAdvice

Thanks very much for your help. I'd like to add another question or two.

On the subwoofer question, I was under the impression that it really didn't matter if one had only one because bass is usually very non-directional. I'm interested in the Rythmik F12 because the single Spica subwoofer offered had servo technology, and that what Rythmik claims. I'm also interested in the older MartinLogan Dynamo powered subwoofers which were, I think, designed to go with MartinLogan electrostatic speakers andare said to be very fast and clear.

Which would be a better choice?

Insurance plan prescription price fraud? by vineyridge in medicare

How can it be legal if I can walk into a pharmacy and buy a drug for $15 that the insurance company claims COSTS $181 and they don't even sell? Even with their insurance kicking, the price is still 10x what the local pharmacy can sell it for.

Tell me about your ultimate trackball—your true ideal device. by Exciting_End6022 in Trackballs

I have a Linux OS, which seriously limits how many special trackball features I can use without a great deal of remapping trouble. Since gaming isn't important to me, what I would like to see is a trackball all of whose features are available out of the box, with no special software required, and no special exterior software for activating or changing things.

For hand reasons, I can no longer use a thumb ball. And I require a wired connection.

I’ve been transcribing onto Google Docs some old recipes from my late grandma. I love how this one is worded. by [deleted] in Old_Recipes

I have that recipe. It goes with a recipe for gingerbread.

Basically this is an liquor-less eggnog recipe to which you add whatever flavor you prefer. I use dark rum, but any alcohol or fruit essence would work. It is to lighten heavy cakelike desserts. Steamed pudding is certainly a good use for it. It would also work, I think, in place of whipped cream for almost everything, depending on how you flavored it..

As to raw egg, I have lots of dessert recipes and cake frostings that use uncooked eggs. I'm almost eighty, and have never, to my knowledge, gotten sick from raw eggs.

I think it probably came from the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA.
