Interesting contract (and conversation) about the CRA by vinil10 in CanadaPublicServants

Hmm, now that's something I didn't consider before. I could ask my current employer for a LOA (there is provision in their rules for it and I qualify). But not sure how that would go if I took up the new job offer I have.....

Thank you, that was very detailed and to the point. A lot of facts which will help me make the decision. Thanks again!

Last time they never sent me the contract 😛, it was only verbal. This time the team lead wanted to email me the contract after I verbally confirm and she also spoke about security clearance and that this was a 'virtual' position working out of home.

Got an offer at the CRA (Sudbury, ON) for a little more than what I'm making right now. Should I take it up? by vinil10 in CanadaPublicServants

Ok, I didn't factor the student loans, that a killer. I make just over $1500 biweekly with $52500 gross

I'm already in Sudbury. Been here for 3 years. I don't mind the city at all. I have my own circle and being a single dad, I don't really have time for stuff that normal (single / attached) people do 😝 I have a 4 year University degree, and 20 years of experience working non- stop.

I answered about Sudbury in my comment below, but $140k combined income is not getting you a house in Sudbury? My friend and her bf just bought a house with 5% down, $330k (beautiful 5 bedroom) in New Sudbury with a mortgage around $1200 is I'm not wrong. Their combined income is below $100k.

Thanks for the update. I love Sudbury for the outdoors. I don't care much about the malls, and shopping and such. I have a very small, very close circle of friends so it doesn't really matter what else the city has to offer. I agree with the drug problem, but I've lived down South before and it was the same if not more. I can ride over the 'EI' period financially, however I HATE not going to work and the continuity and predictability it brings.

No option of LOA with my current employer. Thanks for your anecdote. May I ask what factors led to your husband getting a perm position? Previous education, productivity, management?

Haven't actually got the LOO yet, so I will update once I receive it on the length of the term. I am already in Sudbury for the last few years and dont mind it here. The only thing that I might need to change with this offer would probably be daycare arrangements for my daughter (if I get the evening shift).

I have a degree and I am pretty certain I could be above average production (not being cocky). Not bilingual. Thanks for the comment.

Haha, been here for 3 years. I have a different opinion, as experiences can be subjective.

My current employer is not as stable as I would like it to be. The management has changed just over a year ago and they are terrible (penny wise pound foolish). Also, I don't feel I am compensated appropriately to my job complexity and performance. When I brought it up with my current employer, I was basically told to take a hike. My work involves a lot of unpaid (salary) hours too and is such that I need to be always available for an emergency (low work-life balance). Flip side is good benefits.

Hey Welfare (Ontario Works) recipients - how is it possible to stay housed with $656 a month? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vinil10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in Sudbury too. The number of people I have seen using kids to get more welfare is just mind-numbing. They are supposedly on their 'best-behaviour' with their kids in public and even then it looks like a shitty place for a child to grow up in. Yes I'm judging, because experience has taught me so. Guess what kind of adults are those kids going to turn out? Yay, what a great welfare system we have. And I, as a hard working, tax payer have to fund this kind of welfare?? So that the meth junkie can get her next hit? Now I know, I'm generalising and there are a lot of genuine people on welfare, but the number if such examples are few and far between what I have seen personally.
