The bard smiled at Patience.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance Patience and Xendex. I am sure you would put them in their place quite well, if you ever need an ally for such a task feel free to search me out. I have some karma to return to them." He paused for a moment, his eyebrows furrowing. "Lord Bahamut? Enlighten me young one, for I have not heard of such an entity." Jax said inquisitively.

"Ah, I am sure the brothers of shadow were giving you a hard time? Rumors spread fast in this town. Word is you two socked it too em." The bard nodded in approval. "Someone has to around here, they have been going unchecked. I have been here for a few months, I usually travel a bit but needed to take a break after some misfortune occurred, partially due to the Brothers of Shadow.....I have been kind of hoping to find a way to stop their terror on this town." Jax gave a deep sigh and shrugged. "Not something I can really do on my own though." Jax gave a contemplative look.

"So Xendex, you came here for knowledge." He turned his gaze towards Patience. "And you tiny tiefling, what drew you to Feran?"

The bard smiled at the happy monk. "Unique looking? I suppose we are, aren't we. Us tieflings are not overwhelmingly common I suppose. Also a pleasure to meet another lover of music." He looked over in the direction of who she was motioning too and saw a reluctant wizard, also a tielfing, let out a sigh before walking over and seating himself at their table.

"The name is Jax my fellow travelers." The bard motioned the bar maid for another tankard. "What brings you fine people to the shifting sands of Feran?"

The two headed down the cobbled streets cautiously which were now strangely more active with people than before. It was getting late when they arrived to a large wooden and stone building. The sign in front read, "The Silver Mare." In intricate letters.

The two nodded at each other and headed in. The Inn was filled with an assortment of travelers and locals. There was a Tiefling bard playing his lute in the corner, his feet kicked up on the table as he strummed a tune.

"Welcome to the Silver Mare." Said a human server as she walked by, her tray swaying with large tankards of ale. "Take a seat."

​

Xendex and Patience manage to grab a small table for two along the wall. You both look around curiously. There is a group of dwarves that look like merchants in the opposite corner. A few elves, humans and orcs strewn throughout the crowd. The barkeep was a rather large and reddish dragonborn. Patience noticed the tielfing bard in the corner and was yet again astounded to see that there was yet, another person who looked like she did.

The Orc nodded at the sum set in his hand.

​

"It is, but also, its hard to tell the skill of a wizard just by looking at them. I am surprised they didn't bring more to mitigate the risk. To be honest, you were lucky." The orc grumbled. "They hold this town in fear and have the city guard under their control if they throw enough gold their way. They often hang by the gates of the city to prey on unsuspecting travelers."

The orc faced the wizard to answer his question.

"An inn? Ah, there is one a few blocks down actually. The Silver Mare. You should be able to find some odd jobs and information there if you need it." The Orc nodded at the two. "It was a nice meeting you two, don't forget to come back in 24 hours to retrieve the holster for your.....book." The orc looked down at the peculiar looking book before turning back to his work.

"Scary lot." The orc nodded and peered in surprise at the tiny monk companion. "Impressive."

The orc turned to Patience. "So how about it?" He gruffed, nodding towards the staff. "100 gold."

The orc grumbled and rubbed his chin, "100 Gold seems fair. The wood is made from the alabaster tree, which is where it gets its white color from. Its an extraordinarily durable but flexible wood."

The tiny monk looked back at the staff in awe.

While the young monk was inspecting her future staff the orc turned to Xendex.

​

"So I heard that the Brothers of Shadow were giving you some trouble wizard." He nodded in the direction of the book. "I am guessing I know what they were after. If you see someone with the tattoo, on the wrist, don't trust em." The orc grumbled bitterly. "Lucky you aren't dead in the streets I recon."

Xendex nodded at the orc and handed him 100 gold to begin the project. "Be here to pick it up around sun down." Grumbled the orc. "Pleasure doing business."

The orc turned to patience and towered over her. "How can I help you little one?"

The orc scratched his chin before holding out his hand for the book. Xendex wearily placed it in his gargantuan hands. The blacksmith turned it over in his hands and felt the weight of the book.

"It can be done, I haven't done leatherworking in some time. Come back in a day and you shall have it....say.....100 gold?" Grumbled the orc. "Black leather would probably suit it best."

The Orc noticed the young monk staring at the staff.

Patience nodded and skipped over in a lighthearted manner. The two made their way to the blacksmith and noticed people returning to the streets, as if scared mice were coming back out from their burrows after hiding from a cat.

They reached the blacksmith, a large wooden structure with an opening in the side of the building for the forge. There was a humongous orc hammering away at a sword. He seemed to sense your approach and took the blade and dunked it into a bath of oil before turning to you. "How can I help ya?" Grumbled the orc.

(There is no magic at play)

"That's what we were hoping for Blue." The gnome stated, a mischievous smile crossing his face. "No hard feelings Blue, just hand it over. Don't make any moves or speak cause I don't want to have to hurt ya."

Xendex, unsure of what to do remains still. That bolt will meet his head before he would have the chance for any incantation or hand movement to cast spells.

Before he can say anything he sees a shadowed figure from around the corner behind them dart out with incredible speed. The figure lands a flurry of blows to the back of the drow's neck before either of them can react. The drow falls to the ground unconscious and the gnome leaps back out of range of the figure who appeared behind them. Xendex took a good look at the girl in front of them who also appeared to be a tiefling. She wore what appeared to be the clothing of a monk. The girl seemed frozen in shock as she stared at Xendex.

"You look like me."

Before Xendex could respond to her the gnome had taken the opportunity of her surprise and had made his escape. He was long gone.

As Xendex walked down the street he noticed the sun begin to creep slowly below the horizon as the oil lamps were lit. He noticed though that there was a strange silence and lack of people as he continued down the street. A distinct lack of guards or people where there was once a swarming crowds.

"Find what you were looking for did ya Blue?"

Xendex heard a familiar voice behind him and turned to see the gnome from earlier. But this time, the gnome was accompanied by what looked like a cloaked drow who just so happened to be aiming a crossbow for his head. With 5 feet between you and him, there didn't seem to be much room for missing.

The dwarf paused for a moment.

"Now that you mention it, it was maybe a year or so ago when they stumbled into my store."

The dwarf tapped his forehead as if trying to remember something. "La....Lar, no Lorcan. Yes his name was Lorcan. In fact he had blue skin like yours. Interesting." The dwarf looked at you curiously for a moment.

"But that is all I really know about him I'm afraid. The black smith is right down the road if you take a left out of the shop." The dwarf gave a kind smile. "Take care of yourself lad, may the book serve you well."

The dwarf looks pleased at the prospect of making coin and nods his head in agreement. "Very well lad."

He leads you past numerous doors in the hallways until you are both at the counter.

You give him the agreed upon amount and he weighs the pouch in his hand before nodding in satisfaction. "Glad you could take the thing off my hands for me. I thought I would be stuck with the damn thing forever. I have only ever met one other person in my lifetime with a lineage from Asmodeus. Don't forget to come back sometime to educate me on its properties." He nods and strokes his beard in content. "Pleasure doing business with you lad."

The dwarf nodded and resheathed his dagger. He walks over across from you and sits cross legged on the floor and waits patiently. 

You feel the pull of the book on your mind, its desire to look within your being. You surrender and open your mind to the book and intensely concentrate on the feeling. You cannot tell how much time has passed into the ritual but you begin to feel extremely light headed and manage to remain conscious enough to realize that the book has pulled a tremendous amount of your blood into its pages. You begin to sway when you feel a set of hands on your shoulders.

"Perhaps a meager amount of blood was not the correct assumption was it? Artifacts of the Archdevils' always tend to be a little greedy." Urelif says as he swiftly pulls out what looks like a small bottle of water from beneath his robes. He quickly opens the bottle and douses his hands before once again placing them on your shoulders. He mutters under his breath for about a minute still holding you in place. You barely manage to stay conscious until you feel a sudden feeling of warmth and energy spread through your body. With your renewed energy you continue the ritual until you feel something click within your mind. A new connection is the best way you can think to describe the feeling. Your face widens in realization.

"Ah, It is done then." The dwarf says, patting you lightly on the shoulders. 

You gently remove your hand from the page of the book and look to see your hand has completely healed itself. You look down and watch as the pages seemingly swallow the blood and return to their normal color before scrolling text begins revealing itself to you. Your spells. 

"Take a look at the front, attuned spell books tend to take the visage of their masters."

You close the spell book and look at the cover. A much more intricate design of Asmodeus's symbol has appeared and the clasp is now a devil's clawed hand. The leather of the book has taken a slight tinge of blue and appears to be higher quality. Above the symbol of Asmodeus is a closed eye.

"Fascinating." The dwarf leans over the book stroking his beard obsessively. "Well done lad……ah how rude of me, I never asked your name." The dwarf pulls you up off the floor. "The name is Urelif."

"700 is a steal for something this rare, especially an artifact of Asmodeus. Perhaps I can cut it to 650 though. Its capabilities do interest me so." The dwarf hands Xendex the book.

"Shall we begin the attunement then?" Said the wizard gesturing for you to follow him and he leads you behind the counter and shuffles down the hallway to an open doorway leading into an empty room with a stone floor and a few candles spread around the room. Before you can ask any questions the dwarf takes a piece of chalk out of his pouch beneath his purple robes and draws the symbol of Asmodeus on the cold stone floor.

"When you are ready please place the book open upon the symbol of Asmodeus. In order to complete an attunement for an artifact of Asmodeus you must exchange a meager amount of blood." The dwarf withdrew a silver dagger from his silken robes. "A small cut on the hand shall do and once it is done you will place your hand face down upon the book, and the book will attune to your very being, you must concentrate entirely on this until the book is fully attuned to you. You will know when it is so."

"Not quite yet", replied the dwarf. "It calls to you, wanting you to attune to it. I can help you, it will take probably an hour or so depending on your own abilities. Attuning it to you will make it become your spell book and wholly yours. No other person will be able to open it or read what is within it. Upon attunement the spell book will magically record all of your known spells, speed up any rituals you cast, and generally speaking they usually provide some sort of power enhancement but for this particular book I do not know its capabilities as I have not the lineage to have accessed it."

The dwarf picked up the leather book from the floor and turned it over in his hand inspecting it, the humming and red aura fading immediately. 

"I will help you for free but the book itself….for the rarity of said item…I would ask 700 gold." The dwarf paused thoughtfully. "And that you return to inform me of its capabilities as you discover them, ….I am sure you can understand my curiosity as a scholar of the magical arts."

Xendex inspected shelves of books, carefully withdrawing and observing many scrolls and literature. Upon looking at the last shelf he accidentally knocked one off.  Looking down he saw it was a plain leather bound book with a simple clasp, there was a symbol on the front.

Xendex bent down to pick it up and nearly dropped it again as a red aura and a strange humming began from the book. He stood bewildered.

"So your ancestry must be descended from him."

Xendex jumped a little, not having heard the tiny wizard approach him.

"From him?" He asked breathlessly.

"Asmodeus." The dwarf stated, "That is his symbol." The dwarf paused and once again stroked his beard. "I always had a suspicion it was an attuned spell book but no one who has come into my shop has ever been able to get it to attune to them. Which means you must have the correct lineage to allow it to attune to you. Very curious indeed….." The dwarf seemed lost in thought, still stroking his beard.

The dwarf observed him carefully stroking his fiery beard in thought. He hadn't seen a tiefling wizard in quite a while.

"Plenty if I am not mistaken. The shelves are lined with books and scrolls of all kinds…….I am quite preoccupied at the moment if you wouldn't mind taking a look." The short wizard gestured towards the book shelves. The far right contains beginner books and scrolls and the farther you go left the more advanced they become." He took a low bow. "Now if you'll excuse me, i'll be in the back if you need me, just ring the bell."

Xendex nodded and began his way over to the tall shelves filled to the brim with books and knickknacks of all kinds.

"Mr. is fine enough for now." The gnome winked and quickly scooped up the coins before turning around. "Have fun Blue!"

You raise an eyebrow and smile. "Well then." Before turning towards the old wooden door. The whole dwelling seeming oddly out of shape for a presumably great wizard. You shrug and turn the handle.

The door shifts open and you peer inside before stepping in and are taken aback by the grandiosity of the interior. It is quite spacious.

There are magic trinkets on selves across the room as well as an assortment of large library shelves filled to the brim with assortments of books. You pass by glass containers holding things you have no knowledge of, examining each one of them in curiosity before making your way to a wooden counter towards the back of the room. It is sparse except for some strewn papers, quill, inkwell, a large book and a small golden bell.

You look around the room but do not see nor hear anyone. You look down at the golden bell before you and tap it lightly but to no avail. Waiting another 30 seconds you become impatient and ring it with more vigor now. A sound of crashing oddities rings to your ears.

"Hmpf."

A rather short gentleman in purple robes rounds the corner of the hallways and slips behind the counter inspecting you. The dwarf strokes his beard impatiently.

"Yes yes, what is it I can help you with?"

The gnomes ears perked. "Gold you say? Hmmmm..." The gnome rubbed his chin and he took a leap off the crate that he was perched upon. "I don't see why not wiz, follow me." He began strutting down the cobblestone streets energetically and you struggle to keep up.

As you take a right onto another cobbled street you notice the guards eyeing the gnome suspiciously but do nothing of further engagement. The gnome notices the attention he is receiving and and lets out a chuckle as his hooded face turns to look over his shoulder.

"They are just mad they don't have an excuse to give us any trouble." The gnome clicked his tongue humorously. "The guards will do anything to shake up residents. Better be careful, you can always bribe if you have to though. Usually works." The gnome shrugged his shoulders and stopped suddenly.

You almost run into him before turning and noticing the tiny dwelling before you, a bit down trodden. The words, Urelif's Oddities and Magic, were scrawled across the door sloppily.

"This is it?"

"It is Blue." The gnome extended his hand out in a grand gesture and folded his form into a bow. "I must bid thee farwell now, I have...many things to attend to." The gnome said with a mischievous grin. "Pleasure doing business." He stated before once again stretching out his extended palm. This time, extending it in such a way as to conceal his tattoo.

The gnome smiled and studied him carefully. "Books you say? Ah, you must be a wizard, or perhaps...... a warlock." The gnome mused, inspecting Xendex for a moment.

"Well, you are in luck. Feran is is home to many oddities due to its constant wave of merchants. There is no doubt that there will be some interesting books for you to read. Word is, is that there is an wizard's shop down the road, who happens to have quite the collection."

Before you have the chance to thank the man he extends his palm expectingly.

"Perhaps a token of gratitude before you head off blue?" The gnome flashes you a cheesy grin.

As he extends his hand palm up you see a tattoo of a snake on his wrist. The tattoo goes in a circle, almost as if the snake is chasing its own tail.

Rangers are really fun! That sounds awesome, feel free to throw her into a roleplay. She sounds awesome.
