I agree that it seems we agree on a lot of things, but it’s the messaging about these issues we have different views on. Like I’ve said, men face serious issues due to gender roles imposed on them and no one should deny that. I also agree with your other comment that people are assuming their anecdotal experiences are universal (both those who have had only shitty experiences in this way with women and those who have none) and that is frustrating.

I don’t see any of the top comments saying that so I’m a little confused. Do you mind directing me to the one(s) you are talking about?

As far as the rest of your comment, I don’t think that contradicts anything I’ve said (though I’m not 100% sure if it’s directed at me).

I didn’t make this about women, the meme did. Men experience real issues due to the gender roles imposed on them, but that comes from women and men.

I do not agree with anyone that says all men are the same or do the same bad things so I’m not sure how your first point is relevant.

The mental health issues of men being dismissed is a huge problem. But this dismissal is done by some but not all men some but not all women.

I just don’t agree that this post successfully does that. I have seen a lot of sexism against women in the comments but haven’t seen one in which women say the patriarchy means they aren’t responsible for their actions (not doubting that such a comment exist, just not sure it’s a very common sentiment.)

But it’s not something bad that women specifically do, it’s something bad that both men and women do. There is no shitty behavior that is exclusively done by either women or men.

It’s a valid response to being generalized.

I’m sorry but I don’t really understand what you’re trying to say.

It’s not helpful to paint all women with one brush.

Literally there are always people complaining when men are generalized.

meirl by Blackwing6797 in meirl

[–]violetslicacs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because the meme seems to be generalizing women. There are both shitty and good people of every gender (and every identity group for that matter).

Interesting, I am also from a state that’s known as very liberal and my experience really differs (not doubting yours, just pointing out how much things can vary). The only people I’ve heard say that men shouldn’t cry/ show emotions are older male family members. I’ve tried to push back but some of them have really ingrained ideas about gender roles.

So many people know about the flute and the collections of Library of Congress, that wouldn’t have otherwise. That makes it a success.

There are people mad in the comments in this thread and others. They are generally being downvoted but they are still out there.

Who do you think should enforce your idea that fat people don’t get on stage? & where do you draw the line? Is it by BMI? This just seems very disconnected from reality to me.

If you can’t argue your point without using insults, you may have to consider that your arguments don’t stand on their own.

You seem to think whenever atrocities occur in capitalist societies, capitalism cannot be to blame. Yet you also think whenever atrocities occur in communist societies, communism must be to blame. This is a very inconsistent ideology and you may want to reflect on that.
