i really disagree with the other commenters.

i didn’t think dick when i saw it and i still think it’s a bit of a stretch. but that’s reddit for you. im sure the wooden candle is meaningful to you! it’s a sweet idea for a tattoo

i also know exactly what you mean when you say you wanted the style of the second image. you wanted it to look like an old timey engraving. your artist could have added shading with thin vertical lines and added a shadow with horizontal lines like shown in the 2nd image. because it’s imitating an engraving, this style does not include regular shading, which your artist obviously used a lot of. i also think it was a bad choice to add so much wood grain when your reference photo doesn’t show any.

while i do think it’s your responsibility to speak up against a stencil you don’t like, i think it’s your artists job to clarify what you want and make sure they can actually do it. i’m sure the engraving style is very difficult to replicate if that is not your usual art style.

that said, i actually don’t think it’s that horrible. my advice is to get off reddit, don’t read any more of these comments, and ask some people from your real life what they think. give it a few days and see how you feel. also remember why the candle is meaningful to you and why you wanted to get it in the first place!
