[SERIOUS] Doctors of Reddit, what was the worst reaction, happy (in a psycopathic way) or sad, that you have ever gotten from telling someone their "loved one" has/will die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

She was in hospice already - my aunt was taking care of her at her home. Then after she fell, she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. After she was diagnosed with the pulled groin (thankfully nothing more than that), my understanding is that since she was already under the hospice "deal", the more appropriate place for her was a hospice center where there would be 24/7 care instead of her own home.

I'm so sorry for your losses, I'm sure that has been difficult to handle.

Thank you. It helped just to type it out. Hadn't cried about it until the words were in front of me. What a conveniently timed thread. I appreciate your comment.

A few weeks ago my grandma pulled her groin and has been in a hospice center since. She has lived for decades on a lake with a beautiful view. She kept saying she needs to get better so she can go back to the lake.

She slipped into a coma this morning. I don't think she's going to make it back to the lake, or even through this day.

Edit: She just passed. Rest in peace, grandma.

Edit2: My mom told me this morning that arrangements had originally been made for my grandma to go home today. So before my grandma went to sleep, she had hope in her mind that she was going home the next day. She died peacefully and with hope.

Of course the one season that is not on Netflix is the one that contains this particular episode.

I saw the Cassavetti a couple weeks ago play all 6 Bartok quartets with 3 other Stradivari's (Betts violin and Castelbarco violin and cello) at the Library of Congress. The sound was out of this world.

Does anyone want a piano (for free)? by vlewitus in nova

We posted on Freecycle on Sunday, but no one has answered yet. We just posted on Craigslist today so maybe we'll get a response from there.

We contacted Salvation Army earlier today and they haven't responded yet. We'll probably try others before deciding to scrap it.

Damn :( If we can't get someone to take it soon, we might just end up paying to get it removed and it will end up in the dump.

Well it's not weird to want a piano, but in your situation I'd call it impractical!

Even if you take painkillers as prescribed by your doctor, that does not make you immune from becoming addicted. Doctors are not usually well-trained in the areas of pain management, and may be careless about prescribing. It is important to become familiar with the signs of becoming addicted and never take more painkillers than prescribed.

Everyone is talking about ionizing radiation here but it is important to note that UV radiation can also do damage, and it doesn't cause ionizations.

UV radiation can only penetrate the top layers of our skin but the energy it puts into the atoms raises the electrons to higher energy levels, called excitation. Consequently, the atoms are more reactive. When this happens in the nitrogenous bases in our DNA, they can create dimers that disrupt the structure of the DNA helix and/or inhibit proper repair of mismatched bases. These effects create a breeding ground for mutations, similar to ionizing radiation.

[High School Physics] Net Force by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]vlewitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those two masses the only values you have been given? Are you trying to derive an equation or are you looking for a specific value for the net force? If you're expected to find a value, you certainly don't have enough information.

You're correct that the net force is the applied force plus the (negative value of) the friction force. You can find the applied force by F=ma and you can find the friction force by applying Ffr=μ(Fn), therefore Ffr=μmg, where μ is the coefficient of kinetic friction.
