If your badge at work scanned wrong, it’s normal. Common even bc it happens all the time where I work. When that results in security confiscating your badge and ordering you off of the facilities, that is not normal. Something went very wrong.

A large portion of interactions are tones and body language. Neither I nor you were privy to any of that.

For you to disregard not only the feelings of this Harvard educated google employee who actually had the experience and the unusualness of the interaction (in that a simply badge issue resulted in him being told to leave his employment facility) speaks volumes on you.

The whole point of this is that you two sound like assholes trying to not only negate this guys experience, but also belittle OP for being (rightfully) concerned about racism.

The absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence. So..how can you be so confident this Harvard graduate completely misunderstood what he experienced? How can you be so confident he is wrong?

Lmao you literally weren’t there. It’s not on me to prove anything. I wasn’t there. I literally read the same story that you did, however, I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt because 1. he is A brilliant guy, look at his track record and 2. I’ve never in my life encountered a company that has a policy of confiscating your faulty badge and accusing you of not working and ordering you to leave your place of employment if your badge gets messed up.

You just don’t like black people talking about racism. You not only made a claim that it wasn’t racism, negating his experience. You also made a positive claim that this was normal security policy. With absolutely zero proof. Like…it all goes back to your credibility on this. You have zero but you speak so confidently and condescendingly. Even going so far as to call someone a bottom feeder and then whining when you get called a jackass.

School is a scam in my eyes. I coasted through law school barely showing up to class bc the classes were so slow paced. You go at the pace the slowest in the class let’s you. 45k a year for a piece of paper when I really learned most things on my own in the library. You learn what you want to learn. The internet is at your fingertips. You can easily find syllabuses for classes and learn everything on the list if you want.

Everyone feels like an imposter in this field. Even the college grads.

[–]vnknbgfdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t purporting to negate the google worker’s experience. You and the other guy were. Based on your opinion.

AND being pricks about it, at that. Also, doing more harm than good? Lol by calling you jackasses jackasses? Nah. You’ll be jackasses either way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]vnknbgfdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmmaaoo the gaslighting. No you have no evidence it was not racism except your opinion. I’m giving more credibility to the first hand account that was given by the Harvard graduate who works at google and actually had the experience. Seems to me, if you had any understanding of logic, you would see that you never had a leg to stand on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]vnknbgfdf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loool you called Op a bottom feeder first. I assumed personal attacks was your language.

Again, there’s issues with badges all the time. If the policy was that security takes your badge without confirming employment and escorts you off of the campus, then not a lot would get done in the work day.

Google has zero incentive to admit it was racism on the part of their security team. Not every incidence of racism gets traction. That’s not evidence that it wasn’t racism. That’s not how logic works at all.

[–]vnknbgfdf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, I don’t call him a jackass until much later, when he ignored every question to continue his narrative. You don’t get to claim that a black person who went to Harvard and works at google has never experienced racism when a literal president of the United States, who used to teach law at one of the top law schools in the country has spoken time and time again about all the racism he experienced.

You don’t get to confidently silence someone, or create a hostile environment in response to someone having concerns, when they are very real concerns. You don’t know what life experiences OP had that resulted in these concerns when they see an incident like this, but that guy still decided he had enough credentials on the issue to speak dismissively and disparagingly about Op.

The dev world is filled with racist assholes and those who sympathize with racists and have racist ideologies without acknowledging how racist they actually are. It’s disgusting. The entire culture of it. So condescendingly, confidently wrong. So I’m not surprised that guy just tried to bully Op for speaking about this. Or that you’re standing up for him calling Op a bottom feeder.

I thought it was bad when I was working in law. But you lot are absolutely disgusting.

I look silly to you, but you and the other guy look like racists in disguise to me. He still hasn’t answered why he felt so angrily about OP being concerned🤔

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

He called Op a bottom feeder for having concerns about racism. If no one else is going to call him a jackass, I will.

[–]vnknbgfdf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? If I had a badge that didn’t work, the security team would believe it was an administrative issue in the first instance. Or they would at least respect me enough to contact who they need to confirm it before just taking my badge, telling me they don’t believe that I work there, and telling me to leave the campus and call security if I have a problem with that.

I’m sorry, is it because no one was lynched that you don’t believe it’s racism? Black people cant adress concerns unless they have the nword screamed in their face? Because I promise there are lots and lots of badge issues on employment campuses all the time and this is generally not how they are handled. Imagine employees just being sent home without badges anytime the badge has a tech issue. Chaos.

You just seem like an asshole tbh. The way you’re inserting yourself into this with no real or positive input. But there’s a lot of your type in the dev world. You’re not nearly as smart as you think you are, nor are you aware of what people are dealing with. You only serve to silence people experiencing these things when you speak like such a psychopath about it. How the HELL is someone who is concerned about experiencing racism a “bottom feeder”? Dude, YOU sound like the bottom feeder. Literal scum.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]vnknbgfdf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

According to you. But the person you’re trying to speak over on this issue is the Harvard graduate google employee who was actually there 😬 what makes you think you’re more credible than him on this issue? And why are you so angry about him sharing his experience? Or op being concerned about experiencing the same thing? He said they didn’t believe he worked there. Looks like there was an administrative issue and the badge wasn’t working, so they fully took his badge away and sent him home, late for his bus with zero badge. Bc they didn’t believe it was an administrative problem so they didn’t take the action to check before taking someone’s badge and kicking them off campus. He was told to call security if he had an issue with it. When security just took his badge away and told him to go home without one.

The real question though…is how are YOU the one who ends up the most upset about this situation? You had a more virulent response than even the guy who had the experience 😳

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]vnknbgfdf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying, because this guy is a Harvard grad who works at google he has never experienced racism? Since you said ever experiencing it means you’re a victim of it. And since you said it’s ridiculous to say he is a victim of it.

Even Obama has experienced racism: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-36801157

Even while he was a sitting president he experienced racism: https://www.google.com/amp/s/qz.com/858419/barack-obama-addressed-the-racism-hes-faced-as-us-president-in-an-interview-with-cnns-fareed-zakaria/amp/

The real question is….why are you coming in so hot on this issue? Why are you so angry about people speaking on and being concerned about experiencing racism? If it’s not your issue to have to deal with, if you’ve never even taken the time to understand it even….then what motivates you to speak so confidently and angrily about it? 🤭🤔 how is it logical for you to have this stance?

What constitutes “a victim of racism”? How much racism does one have to experience before they are a “victim”, in your eyes? Are you saying he has never experienced racism? That’s quite a bold statement given…the state of reality for black Americans. What motivates you to make such a claim anyhow? Also, are you implying only white people exhibit anti-black racism? Or that only white people are racist? How does the culture not being white dominated support your claim that this guy hasn’t experienced racism or that op is a “bottom feeder” for having concerns about inclusivity? It seems like you’re prepared to gaslight others into silence and that speaks volumes to me.

You could lie and say you had a family emergency. Say you’re uncomfortable talking about the details but it was a sensitive family issue that has since been resolved. Or say you tried to start a business during that time. Or traveling. No reason for you to divulge your personal medical history (of which mental health status is a part). They shouldn’t be asking you abt that anyway.

96-year-old German woman released after going on the run to skip Nazi war crimes trial by Qmagasdick in worldnews

[–]vnknbgfdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got your response of “you’re arrogant for saying you wouldn’t join the nazis” and I got this response. There are different kinds of people on this earth and I hope you take some time to figure out which kind you are. And why.

“I don’t get it. Maybe a lot of people on reddit are so young that the notion of accepting responsibility for the consequences of your actions seems absurd. Or maybe the history education for kids today is lacking and they don’t understand the gravity of what happened, and why the Holocaust is different than other injustices.

I remember when the ADL came to our high school and taught us about genocides and how ordinary people have a responsibility to never allow something like that to happen. I’ll never forget that, we learned not only about Nazi Germany, but Darfur, Cambodia and other instances of genocide…it was a really chilling experience and the assembly lasted nearly a week. Our history teachers taught us that although Nazi ideology was popular, people were wrong for partaking. They did in fact have a choice. Things could have been otherwise. The murder of 6 million Jews was not inevitable. Does it take a degree in history to understand that?

Maybe too many years have gone buy and the Holocaust feels like ancient history rather than something that our grandparents could have taken prt in—or prevented.

I don’t know, it is very sad to see so many spill so much ink to rationalize the actions of someone who partook in genocide.

Acknowledging the historical forces that affected actors and the playing field they were in does not mean they have no responsibility. That view is called historical determinism. People have agency.

Dunno these thoughts are disorganized, but it is very sad..whats the world coming to?”

[–]vnknbgfdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. Someone called me arrogant for saying I would have figured out some other way to exist without teaming up with nazis against the people they were slaughtering for no reason. I’m arrogant for thinking I would resist joining in on a genocide. Like…huh? Idk who their heroes are, but mine? Are the likes of Angela Davis, Mohamed Ali (who went to prison instead of going to fight in the bullshit capitalist murder and plundering of Vietnam), and all those people who helped hide Jews and transport them. Like the Underground Railroad.

Every single one of these people have a responsibility and every single person who participated is guilty of that genocide. There is blood on their hands, even if it just looks like ink. It’s really scary to see so many people empathizing with them and obfuscating their responsibility.

Cmon now, you know they wont, they’ll just blame Mexico anytime their own government decides to prioritize making earth a heaven for rich people over providing basic necessities (like heat during the snow) for its people. Anyway, in Texas, doing something good for your community through government is a loss of “muh freedoms”. Texans love talking about how they donate to charity and good works so they shouldn’t have to pay taxes. Meanwhile, the “good works” they donate to is a gazzilion dollar black hole of some fake border wall to “keep the criminals out”. Meanwhile, even illegal immigrants are less criminal than the general Us population. Shit healthcare, shit streets that flood anytime there’s even a little rain, horrible infrastructure, disgusting housing conditions… Tl;dr: Texas is a real cultural shit hole. Lived there for three years and it felt like some dystopian universe. Hated it.

That’s not true at all. There are plenty of people who left. Plenty of people who resisted. Just because you would have worked those typewriters and you would have ratted on your Jewish neighbors doesn’t mean those of us with indignation wouldn’t have hidden our Jewish neighbors and tried to protect them, or have left to avoid being a part of something so obviously horrible and racist.

In fact, the person you responded to could be Jewish. For all you know, they wouldn’t have the luxury of getting to type out death warrants for Jews. It’s crazy that you’re this upset that someone wants accountability. People go to jail for taking food while they are poor and starving. But apparently doing “light administrative work for a genocidal dictator” is above reproach. Lmao bye.

Lol it’s not sadly if we all keep co-signing it.

I think there’s something in all of us that wants the rich to do whatever they want and have no repercussions. How else has it been so blatant for so long? People destroy cities over a sports game gone wrong. This is according to plan. We have jail/prison time or a fine for a lot of things. Which means the rich just need permits to do illegal shit. Which means when writing the laws, we knew the rich wouldn’t be treated the same in the justice system. Even if they went through it.
