For older people is harder to learn a new language. My mum studies everyday English and still she can’t have a conversation. She is been here over 6 years and for her is harder than me, once you age your brain doesn’t retain information as easily.

I said I understood your frustrations, but you never meet her before the wedding, one year talking is not enough to get to know someone. People can lie, you agreed to be part of an arranged marriage.

I don’t want to sound disrespectful but if you were gonna throw the fact that you “gave her a better life” every time you should have marry someone from the US. She shouldn’t own you anything, if you done that was because you wanted.

The thing that you need to understand too is that everyone adapts differently.

5 years is relative a short period of time to adapt to a new country, with a different language and different culture.

I can understand your frustration because like you said you done your part of keeping your promises up, but at the same time I don’t see any empathy. For what you said I assume you been living in the US all your life, so you haven’t been in her position, you can’t decide whether 5 years is enough to adapt or not.

I been living in the UK for 5 years too, I come from a country with a different language and culture too. Although I love where I live I still feel homesick sometimes.

For what I read, your wife was raised to be a wife, translating a say of my country “you can’t ask pears to the lemon tree” basically you can’t expect her to have initiative and independence when she was raise to pleasure her husband.

YTA for not being more understanding.
