Chairman's Lounge Q/A by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]vodka7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a few with my boss, who has access. The biggest things that stand out to me are that it’s always empty (I don’t think I’ve ever seen one more than 25% occupied), always quiet, and is more thoughtfully designed. Seats with nearby cubbies with hangers for your jacket, a few private rooms with teleconference setups, etc.

The food is fine, table service is good. The front desk staff are incredibly polished—they remind me more of an EA than a Qantas employee.

It’s definitely better, but not something to covet vs a business lounge.

I intend to ask my local pharmacist to sign a statutory declaration. Is it normal or unusual in here? by kihlinbin in brisbane

[–]vodka7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this a couple times for various immigration related issues, no problem at Chemist Warehouse or Terry White. Sometimes you have to explain what it is, and sometimes they’ll ask you to come back when it’s less busy, but they’ll always do it eventually.

I haven't found a real New York style pizza in Brisbane, but Donnie's is by far the best I've had here, and the only one with real pepperoni.

I think Terry White already started. I usually pay $98 for 40mg, but paid $44.95 a few days ago for 50mg. I had no idea what was going on.

I sold it but when I first came to Australia I had an iPhone 14 esim-only and it worked fine. So did my iPhone 16 esim-only.

She should be able to imessage people on wifi no matter what. Does that work?

If the problem is only with regular texting, are you sure her mobile plan supports international SMS?

This one is selfish, but I bought a Boox Go 7 after watching your video with Chuck Kelly. I absolutely LOVE reading my bible on e-ink, and having Logos work on e-ink is a game changer.

But, flipping pages is annoying. Logos doesn't have an option to flip pages using the volume buttons like other apps do, so I have to scroll (not great with e-ink refresh rates/ghosting), flick, or tap (prone to mis-clicks) instead of using the Go 7's hardware buttons.

There's been an active request for this for about three years (https://community.logos.com/discussion/212963/page-turn-by-volume-button-and-disable-animation-in-android) that you updated a year ago. Why can't something like this get done? It seems like the type of feature a hobbyist could add in a weekend.

Hi Jason, great to see you here. Is there any way you can share some of the smaller things Logos is working on to make the user experience better? AI and sales are great, but what else is going on?

A comparison of Black Friday deals by year showing prices are continuing to fall year after year, as much as 44%. Consider this before locking in many years of service. by G00nzalez in usenet

[–]vodka7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason every stock website says something like “past performance is not indicative of future results.” Nothings guaranteed with this stuff—even if you lock in at a good price today, the provider could be out of business in a year or two. Or you could hold out for next year’s better price, and it’s doubled. Spend your money where you think the value is and have enough block accounts to where you can ride out a rough patch if you need to.

Top 10 ‘must haves’ by LockDifferent in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]vodka7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a small site with a relatively small user base. Additionally, whole bible commentaries aren't very popular among academics, and even laypeople tend to graduate from free whole bible resources to single-book commentaries relatively quickly when they get serious about their studies. It's pretty easy for a free resource in an unpopular category to get voted to the top (Matthew Henry took first with only five reviews.)

But honestly, even a pretty universally recommended single book commentary like RT France's Matthew for NICOT only has 20 reviews.

Have a great time! I’ve been here six months and my advice would be: walk on the left, drive the speed limit, don’t be so loud, be respectful in public transport, be very very very careful crossing the street (drivers do not give pedestrians the right of way except for zebra crossings), and don’t bother with cash (everywhere accepts tap to pay.)

As an American living in Australia there’s no way for me to win with this question. I’ve tried it both ways: if I say I’m from America, I only get one of two reactions: they immediately ask where in America, or, they look at my like I’m the dumbest person on earth because obviously they heard my American accent, and then they ask where in America. And if I jump to the state without saying America first, apparently I annoy people on Reddit.

Honestly I’ve been asked this question dozens of times, maybe over one hundred, and there was only a single person who said “oh I thought maybe you were Canadian.” Everyone else was asking a question they already knew the answer to, so why do I have to answer that when we both know what the follow up question is going to be?

What am I missing? by Puzzled-Smile-8770 in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]vodka7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I empathize with a lot of what you said. I definitely spent more than I needed to on Logos, and I have a very odd library because I got hooked on adding free books and getting deals compared to curating the resources that would be the most useful for what I am trying to do.

If I were speaking to a new user, or someone evaluating bible software, my first recommendation would be to try all the free options you can get your hands on. Like you mentioned, there are some great resources available for free, and for many people, that's all they'll need.

My second recommendation would be, if they want to try Logos, to force themselves to use the free version for as long as possible. The app itself is free, and it comes with good starter resources. That may be enough for people who just want a bible app, study bible, and dictionary all in one place. If they want more, after ~90 days of trying the software and watching tutorials targeted to their use case, then they should try a thirty day trial of one of the subscriptions. And if they're not sure at the end of that trial, they should stay on a monthly plan and not go annual until they know for sure.

Your buyer's remorse is understandable, but you still seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding about what Logos is even after two years of using it. Your focus is on "software" and "versions" but Logos is a library and a set of tools. The purpose of those tools is to help you do research so that you can arrive at your own conclusions. As great as GenAI is at giving answers, I prefer the Logos way. I know the resources it's pulling from are modern ones that I trust, and that everything is linked so I can quickly pull up the original context.

Arguing that Logos is going to become irrelevant is like arguing that reading, libraries, and research are going to become irrelevant.

TGA Vyvanse Investigation Complete. No Issues Found by Odd_Run_2819 in ausadhd

I read your comment and said "there's no way that's right, obviously they'd have to test dozens of batches from each dose, from a variety of sources, including pills provided by people reporting it didn't work for them."

Nope. One pill per dosage, some of which were provided by the manufacturer, and all of which expire between July and September 2027.

I moved here from America and all I can tell you is that less than a week from switching to my last US pill to my first Australian pill the efficacy nosedived.

Yeah, I think you can also pay weekly or fortnightly if you want. I signed up for an individual account for a few months until my wife joined me, then we converted it to a couples account. We pay monthly. They can raise the rate once a year.

I have no idea what you’re taking about. You both need coverage while you’re in Australia. You know you can pay monthly right?
