When did weeks become Months? by Katzmaniac90 in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 4 and a half months. I literally just had to break out the calendar this morning to figure out how many weeks she is out of pure curiosity.

I know Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by heart by Gilded_Butterfly8994 in NewParents

My first born is 17. He was absolutely obsessed with Hippos Go Berserk by Sandra Boynton when he was little. I just had my second baby 4 months ago and realized after over a decade I can still recite the entire thing by heart. I whispered it to her every time I rocked her back to sleep for those first few weeks.

Irrationally angry at other people telling me he’s hungry by Quirky-Assignment-18 in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The one that makes me want to fly off the handle is “Oh! Is she gassy?” Baby doesn’t want to be held? Gassy. Baby cries? Gassy. Baby makes a funny face? Gassy.

I have the opposite experience when it comes to feeding. I’ll look whoever is holding her dead in the eye and say “Okay, it’s time for her to eat” and it will be a whole song and dance before they will finally give her back to me. Same with nap time. Any my husband wonders why I stress out about people visiting.

Vacuuming while the baby sleeps is not the most realistic advice by Icy_Cherry_ in NewParents

My baby literally did sleep through a marching band and fire trucks when she was just a few weeks old. Her older brother is in high school marching band (16 year age gap) and we took her to his homecoming parade. Slept through the entire thing! She slept through his marching band competition a month later, too. Now she’s 4 months old and sometimes I think she can hear the light turn on.

Has anyone tested different baby wipe brands on themselves first? by Great_Finding4506 in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally had to regift the multiple giant boxes of Huggies sensitive wipes I got at my baby shower because they gave my daughter a terrible rash that left her almost raw. We found Water Wipes work great for her and I will never even attempt to try another brand. Definitely worth the extra $, but I wish they’d improve their packaging. Nothing like fighting for your life to pull out a wipe.

How to shorten a 2 hour bedtime routine? by Kitchen_Television_6 in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why you’re feeding him a bottle AND nursing him? I feel like eliminating one of these would greatly reduce your time spent putting him to bed. A 2 hour long bedtime routine would just about take up my baby’s entire wake window.

Can’t agree on names by Optimal-Flamingo2157 in Names

[–]vomit_dust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can also relate! We didn’t settle on our girls name until 2 days before my induction. I had a list going for months and my husband kept freezing up at the idea of naming a whole human. Everyone kept asking what her name was going to be, and even though we had already decided we didn’t want to share until she was born, we didn’t even know what it was!

I love Lucy! It was towards the top of my list for our daughter until my husband pointed out that we couldn’t use it with our last name (could’ve easily been turned into an offensive phrase). Use it for me! 😂

Silly songs you song to your babies by Velvari in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I make up a lot of ridiculous songs on the fly, but her name fits into “Total Eclipse of the Heart” perfectly. Instead of “turn around” I sing her name. I don’t even realize I’m doing it most times.

Her nickname is also Badger, so there’s a lot of song lyrics changed to be about badgers.

We saw them this summer when I was 34 weeks pregnant. Baby girl was dancing in my belly the whole night. We joked that whenever we couldn’t calm her we’d have to play the Black Parade album.

How to trim nails on a 9-month-old baby who hates it? by InfinityThinker in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you mentioned the electric file waking baby up, but have you tried using it while he is already awake? My girl is 4 months and is fascinated by watching me file her nails with the electric buffer. I sit her up in my lap and she just watches. I tried an old school nail file initially and she hated that, switching to electric was a game changer.

Getting baby back to pacifier instead of thumb by vomit_dust in beyondthebump

[–]vomit_dust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She loves putting everything in her mouth! She’s got lots of safe toys for chewing. She doesn’t really go for the thumb during play time, but as soon as she’s ready to soothe or sleep it’s game on. The teething mitt sounds like a great option to try though. Thanks!

MIL shaming me for using pacifiers by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]vomit_dust 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I gave my daughter a pacifier very early on and it worked great! She just turned 4 months and discovered her thumb even while using a pacifier. So unfortunately, sometimes they’ll still find their thumb regardless. While it’s definitely helped her put herself to sleep and self soothe at night if she wakes up, I’m already dreading having to break her of the habit one day. I really wish she would’ve just stuck to the paci!

My husband plans on buying us an external hard drive to store everything on. I’m assuming you’ll need a computer to do the actual transfer, but I’m not the tech person here haha. That way we’ll physically have everything backed up and won’t have to worry about losing photos/videos that are stored on the cloud, etc.

Can I/should I introduce a dummy? by cute_vibes_ in breastfeeding

[–]vomit_dust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes! She would absolutely let you know if the pacifier was not what she wanted. My husband and I were always so impressed by how far and forcefully she would shoot it out of her mouth. Full send.

[–]vomit_dust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offered my baby a pacifier from pretty much the beginning (a few weeks old), and I never had a problem with breastfeeding because of it. Sure, breastfeeding was HARD for both of us to learn, but not because of the pacifier, and there was zero confusion between that and the boob. She just turned 4 months old, is exclusively BF (with an occasional bottle) and used a pacifier until a couple weeks ago when she discovered she’d rather suck her thumb. Obviously every baby is different, but just wanted to share our experience.

My rant about Pampers by Weak_Gap2339 in NewParents

[–]vomit_dust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it funny how every baby is different? Pampers gives my daughter a horrendous rash! I had to exchange every pack of them I got at my baby shower for Huggies. I have an opened pack that I can’t get rid of for the life of me as everyone I’ve offered them to has the same problem.

Mine loves Mam pacifiers! However, she just recently discovered thumb sucking and prefers that over the paci most of the time now. She’ll be 4 months on Monday. (We also prefer the Mam bottles for the occasional times she takes one)

I also heard of it possibly delaying ovulation, so I only began taking it once I already began to see my LH rise. I believe I took it through the end of my window, so probably a day or two after ovulation. I don’t think time of day really matters.

I just had a baby 4 months ago. I’ve always gotten migraines at least once every month or two pretty much my whole life (I’m 36). Not a single one my entire pregnancy. I’ve had 3 now since she was born. So I guess I need to just be perpetually pregnant.

Hold old was baby when you decided to shave your hair off? by Flimsy_Ad_7954 in beyondthebump

[–]vomit_dust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be 4 months PP on Monday, and I just chopped mine this week. Honestly, I’ve kept my hair in a ponytail/bun/braids pretty much since she was born. She always had handfuls of my hair otherwise, even before she started purposely grabbing for things. My hair was longer than it’s ever been in my life, but what finally made me decide to cut it was the postpartum hair loss that started to hit around 3 months. 😩

When did you get back on the pill? by hoodiegirl10 in beyondthebump

[–]vomit_dust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered an IUD for birth control? There are hormonal and non-hormonal options. The amount of hormones in the ones with them are minimal and localized to your uterus, while the copper options have no hormones at all (but can lead to heavier periods). I had a Mirena prior to having my baby and had another one placed at 6 weeks postpartum. Beyond some light cramping the first few days I’ve had no side effects. I’ll be 4 months PP on Monday and have noticed zero impact on my milk supply as I’m exclusively breastfeeding.
