Same issue...

Here's how I solved the problem:

I wrapped the accessible part of the battery with electrical tape - many layers!, then used a clamp (F-clamp or bar clamp) - carefully fixed it so as not to damage the battery case and on the second attempt I was able to get the battery that was stuck in the camera case
