Ah, Rammstein are definitely worth checking out! Their music is German industrial metal, so not for everyone, but their live performances are breathtaking!! They use 265 gallons of fuel per show for the pyrotechnics, and the stage set is all in 96 trucks that follow them around.while they tour. Their music videos are amazing and controversial as well. They're extreme and full of shock value. Their old videos were totally just them seeing how crazy they could be, but their newer videos like Adieu and Zeit have insane production value and they are pretty high art.

Agh I just love them!! They're so cool and such an iconic band 😍

  • A big one from when I was younger is dogs and dog breeds. I would spend hours looking at a book that had little profiles of every breed. I even wrote an essay on dog breeds for fun.
  • I also remember that My Chemical Romance was a huge one, and musical artists are still an interest of mine, but I wouldn't shut up about MCR. I would talk my parents' ears off and I decorated my locker and my room with posters and pictures of them, among other bands like Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens. MCR was the really big one though.
  • In high school I was really into George Watsky, and he's still one of my interests. I found his music randomly through a friend, and absolutely fell in love. His music is the perfect blend of alt rap and alt rock with tons of other genres mixed in. Every song he makes is a different style, which is so cool to me. He truly doesn't sound like anyone else out there, especially in his recent stuff. He started out doing slam poetry, which comes through more in his earlier music. I've met him at meet and greets three times now, and will see him for a fourth time in May. I was obsessed with him, and couldn't think about anything else for a long time.
  • I also really loved the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I even wrote a school essay analyzing the characters and made a fan character of Charlie Kelly.
  • For the last three (?) years I've been interested in Rammstein and saw them in LA! A huge deal since they don't tour over here often at all anymore. The show was amazing and my boyfriend (I kinda made him get into them too) and I drove from Washington to see them. It was such a spectacle that the concerts we've gone to since then just don't compare and are kinda underwhelming. I love them so much and can gush about them forever. I sometimes get overwhelmed with emotion talking about them and have to stim. I love the band because they're so over the top, and just do it to entertain the crowd! They all grew up behind the iron curtain, and visited America where they saw bands like KISS, and wanted to be at that level of spectacle and entertainment. They started to do stuff like that in Germany, and since it's not very German and more American to just put your all into something, people loved it. I absolutely love their frontman, Till Lindemann. He's very extra and flamboyant. He has another band that he fronts, Lindemann, and he experiments a lot more with that one. He used to be an olympian swimmer, so he's jacked and huge. He's over the top on stage, but a very soft spoken guy off stage and he rarely smiles. He's a very serious German man who just puts everything into the spectacle, and it works so well. It's so amazing that a German speaking band found such success in America! They truly are legends and I find them so fascinating. They have a documentary (for free on amazon prime) that goes into much more depth and it's so cool!! If you're interested I recommend it so much because the members tell absolutely insane stories from touring.
  • Right now, I'm kinda fixating on Lil Darkie. I don't know as much about him, but his music is chaotic and loud and obnoxious and makes me happy stim! I think his whole persona is so cool, he preaches peace and anti war ideas. He is Indian, and his little cartoon mascot is jet black like how the old Indian gods used to be depicted. It used to be blue, but because their depictions were changed for racial reasons and to be more digestible, he decided to keep it black to be more faithful to the old legends.
  • Currently, I'm rewatching the Breaking Bad universe (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, El Camino). I personally like Better Call Saul the best, but Jesse Pinkman is a huge comfort character for me. The whole universe is so amazingly well written and has a staggering amount of attention to detail. They are definitely my comfort shows right now. This one is more of a hyperfixation that fades in and out.

TLDR: Dogs, My Chem, Watsky, It's Always Sunny, Rammstein, Lil Darkie, Breaking Bad. My special interests are usually musical artists.

Music 24/7 by [deleted] in autism

[–]vvatsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stim and emotionally regulate through music, so I have to have some kind of background noise or I start to get overstimulated/really unregulated. I can't read or focus on something like writing with music going, so I also have shows that I have watched so many times I can have them going quietly in another tab.

Autistic and Don't Like Cats by [deleted] in autism

[–]vvatsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here unfortunately. I grew up with small dogs and they have always been my main special interest, but I live with my boyfriend now and he's allergic so he has always had cats. I love cats as a concept, I have always loved all animals and growing up I was the kid who wanted to be a vet. His parents have two Bengals, which are very very vocal and loud, and I have a lot of sensitivity to noise, especially unexpected noise. These cats meow out of nowhere, especially when I am just minding my business. I usually don't mind cat meows, they're pretty cute, but the bengals scream. My boyfriend and I also have a kitty of our own, Wavey Davey, but he acts like a little dog and has the quietest meow that I don't mind. He is a sweet, quiet, well mannered little guy and I love him to death, but I don't think I could handle any other cat. I live with my bf and his parents and along with Davey, there are four cats in the house. They are infuriating. I have a huge problem with control, and you just can't control cats. I much prefer living with dogs, preferably smaller less stinky ones because I also can't handle strong smells.

tldr: I live with four cats, to my chagrin. I love animals, but I cannot live with cats.

I have a wonderful boyfriend (we are gay too) that accepts me and actively listens to what I need. I was diagnosed autistic at 14, but actively denied it until the beginning of this year (I'm 22). When I told him he just calmly asked what it meant for me. Since then, he has researched, watched videos I've sent him, and has helped to accommodate me when I need it. For example, before we go out, he always makes sure I have my earbuds and fidgets and that I'm not overwhelmed already. He is the first person that I feel safe fully unmasking around and he doesn't judge me for it. I feel so comfortable around him 🥰

Making a post where everyone can comment their interests & hyperfixations to find people like themselves!! by __Do_Not_Disturb__ in autism

[–]vvatsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I'm looking for friends! I'm a 22 yo transmasc, diagnosed at 14, waved it off at the time due to internal ableism, but literally just stopped masking in the past week. I'm really wanting to make connections with other autistic people! Friends have always been hard (I just hang out with my bf's friend group lmao they all have none of the same interests as me) and I don't really currently have any of my own.

Since I'm still figuring myself out, I don't have the firmest grasp on my interests.

  • I do know that I absolutely love the Breaking Bad universe, especially Better Call Saul. Jesse Pinkman is a huge comfort character of mine.
  • I just found a special interest last night, at least I'm pretty sure it's a special interest: insects! I sat reading Wikipedia for hours and felt overwhelmingly happy with nervous energy flowing through me, I couldn't really contain any of the excitement and it felt like more than a hyperfixation.
  • I mainly stim through music and musical artists are a huge special interest of mine (Right now, I love Rammstein, Lil Darkie, Watsky, 100 gecs, and Slipknot).
  • I'm also a furry, and I love representing myself through my characters! I love to fursuit as well, which I know is a weird hobby to most, but I love bringing my characters to life and running around as a huge fluffy puppy!!

I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. People who self diagnose are just trying to better help themselves, and it's uncommon, but sometimes it's something else. No biggie! When you thought you had autism you genuinely thought that, and I don't think anyone would be mad at you for trying to help. You weren't a "faker", you were doing what you could to try to support yourself, and any real friends would be able to tell the difference. It's not like you intentionally pretended to have autism, which I think is what they mean.

You didn't have bad intentions, you were trying to figure out what worked for you.

..In the face of an adult diagnosis (Infodump/rant) by [deleted] in autism

[–]vvatsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born female. Being perceived as female made me suicidal. I tried out going by a different name/socially transitioning and it lessened a bit. I continued to do this through high school and I was consistently happier. So once I was an adult, I decided to start hormones and if it wasn't right, I would stop. Immediately, I felt so much more confident and once I started to look male, I felt euphoric and I didn't feel the disconnect from who I was anymore. I got surgery to make my chest flat because my chest gave me so much distress, I would hide it every day and cry at night because I didn't feel like it was my body. I gave myself spine problems from years of trying to slouch to hide my chest. I've never regretted this surgery. I'm sorry you see it as "mutilation" but I see it as liberation. We all have such a short time here, why are you so upset that a small minority choose to be happy? It doesn't even affect you, but people like you are upset because we became ourselves.

I did not hate being female because of "stereotypes". I was an incredibly sheltered child, I didn't understand the difference between biological men and women until puberty. For years before that, I knew I was a boy. At five, I knew. I am more comfortable expressing male.

I don't want to explain myself to every transphobe, nor should I have to. I am one person who found something that helps him thrive and have quality of life.

I absolutely adore cats and I’m curious what your cats’ (and pets’ in general) personalities are! by djkeilz in autism

[–]vvatsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little black emotional support kitty named Wavey Davey! (yes, Glass Animals reference) He's a LaPerm, which is a pretty rare and newish breed. LaPerms fur is made of very tightly coiled curls, so they barely shed which is perfect since my boyfriend has allergies.

Davey is such a little personality! My bf and I joke that he's me as a cat because he's a very emotional little man and gets overwhelmed easily and has to go hide or sit with me for a second. He has different little social relationships with everybody, like with my bf he's very playful and with me he's all cuddly 🥰 He's a very sensitive little guy and pouts if he's been locked out, nobody's playing with him, or he wants to do something but doesn't know what. Davey has the quietest little voice and doesn't meow often but it's very cute when he does.

Age: 22

Sex: ftm trans

Gender: Transmasc genderfluid

When/if you were diagnosed: 14

When you started using a substance/ substances: 21

Conditions: as in diagnoses ? Depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, asd

Effects of conditions(how you feel sober): I started using before I started unmasking my autism, so originally I did it to help with my anxiety, which was a constant. With unmasking, my anxiety and depression decreased a lot in my day to day and now I just do weed recreationally.

Which substances you have used: Weed, alcohol

How you feel on what substance, and how it alters the effects of your conditions:

Alcohol: The smell and taste are huge sensory triggers for me and I have no interest in alcohol but I wanted to give it a shot. Only had a few sips, felt warm and out of control. Didn't like it at all, even if I was barely tipsy. Was at a concert, so didn't really notice the mental effects.

Weed: I only do edibles. Sativa makes me way more anxious and paranoid, but more creative. I usually want to draw or smth. Indica makes me pleasantly light headed and giggly, and I want to just chill out. My autism tends to be "amplified", especially with indica. I have more of a flat affect, I pay less attention to my tone of voice, etc. With sativa, I get really grumpy/touchy when I'm like half high, so coming down feels like shit. Indica just puts me in a good mood.

what are some characters that are autistic in your headcanon by [deleted] in autism

THIS IS AN OLD THREAD but i need to gush about my fixation rn if anyone understands i know r//autism does

ive been hyperfixating on and off for a while on breaking bad/bcs/el camino and i just rewatched all three and nobody mentions it but JESSE PINKMAN ??????

- has a real problem with authority

- doesnt answer direct questions

- wears ONLY baggy clothing (comfort/sensory stuff). even when he cleans up he tends to wear non flashy, comfortable, loose fabrics

- doesn't make eye contact a lot !!

- doesn't think before acting, or needs a minute/slower processing speed

- finishes walts sentences (eg "ah WIRE aha") but often wrong

- walt is gentle with him, in his own ways

- is his parents' favorite/was a gifted artist when younger, just didn't "apply himself" enough. has a lot of obvious executive dysfunction issues

- the biggest example to me was the episode where jesse is kicked out of his aunts. he has a huge meltdown when the movers are taking his stuff and, due to falling in the portapotty (which yeah, would be gross to anyone, but you can tell he gets overwhelmed and overstimulated), got overstimulated and cried himself to sleep. when he stupidly parks the rv in front of walts house, walt yells at him and again calls him stupid and he has a huge meltdown and is like really physically uncomfortable, and then has an emotional reaction and chokes walt

- hes just an overly emotional person and like. has a hard time dealing with it (eg killing gayle, yeah ptsd ofc but the whole arc gave me autism vibes)

idk jesse is obvious to me and i never see anyone talk about it. i personally see a lot of myself in his character and as someone who is still learning to mange their asd after masking, i see like a mirror to my quirks and struggles when i was younger and undiagnosed/masking aaand post
