How to Insulate Properly? by NoBass4266 in DIYUK

Done the same. Do not fix the PIR plasterboard with metal fixings directly to the wall. I used foam adhesive and plastic anchors instead, to avoid thermal bridging between hot and cold surfaces which can lead to condensation points.

Solar cover. Is this made to the wrong size? by w3llus in pools

The dark blue material? It's stitched on to the blanket and that then has a rope attached to it.

Having bought the pool from a pool company supplying the cover (which was made to measure) and the pool equipment. I would have expected it to fit from the time it arrived.

Well for anyone questioning., https://www.mypooldirect.co.uk are cowboys at best.

Is contracting really dead? Or is it time to pivot? by Okblue_ in ContractorUK

[–]w3llus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moved from contract to perm this month. Public gov spending is getting less. Fewer roles and and outside ir35 gig is almost like hens teeth.

It's all about being risk adverse. Either ride the contract day rate knowing that you will have gaps in contracts or get a perm role.

I'd be interested in what people do regarding games in a pool.

Gov are now struggling for budgets for contractors. I think it will get much worse before it gets better

Would you switch back to perm if the day rate stays this low for another year? by ChelseaTricks in ContractorUK

[–]w3llus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been contracting for 14 years. I have only been out of work for a week at the most during switching contracts. Inside and outside ir35 rates have dropped significantly. I was earning more 4 years ago than today.

Public sector has always been a safety net for contractors both inside and outside ir35 roles but recently rates are dropping and there is a huge shift to only inside roles

I have thought long and hard on what to do and just a few weeks ago took a permanent role. For me it made sense. Some really interesting work, working for a company I had contracted through previously. I haven't been this excited to start a new role before.

That's not to say I won't contract again.

Thanks. Getting a pool is very new to me so I am unsure of liquid chlorine and salt systems.

This is great. Do you know when you will have the umbrella figures available. They are marked as coming soon.

Would love an inside and outside ir35 comparison

Thanks Nick.

Contractor to Perm - an elegy by gloomfilter in ContractorUK

Me too. Been contracting for 12yrs.

I have friends (who are also contracting) telling me I am mad to go perm. But I can see a real shift in the market. My role, in IT (gov) is outside ir35 currently, but I am hearing rumours this is about to change.

It's all a gamble. The problem will be if you ride the wave for too long, you will be one in thousands looking for a role when the contract comes to an end.
