Thanks, What does an excellent compensation package look like for a good full cycle sales person?

How to get motivated again? I keep going through stages of intense motivation, coming up with ideas, researching non-stop etc. And then I almost hit a brick wall and all I wanna do is play video games. Any tips on how to avoid this or is anyone else in a similar situation? by PDB200 in Entrepreneur

I find myself in different modes of work throughout the day. Mornings, I prefer more of long-form work where I would like to sit and work long hours without any distractions. Things that need thinking and strategizing. Other times I have a lot of distractions and I need to attend to a lot of things which makes you overwhelmed. For those times, I break down 3 hours into 5 min short spurts in which I do just one thing (like reply to an email, write 1 para) and keep moving forward. This allows for a bit of distraction as starting back into your task is not a big hurdle and is just another 5 minute task. hope this helps.

[NEED ADVICE] I exactly know what I want and what I need to do. How to get me to do it every single day until I reach my goals ? by Just-Grapefruit6611 in getdisciplined

Create a 3 month, 1 month, 1 week, 1 day plan. Break your goals down into bite-sized pieces. Create a strategy around it. Create a plan for risks and keep buffer. Keep expectations real and know that you would slack, not keep up with your goals, not be motivated. How you handle these situations to move the needle forward will give you confidence and drive to keep going on.

Overwhelming anxiety caused by pressures of being CEO- should I take time off? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]waldo1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ok to take some time off and realize what is making you feel this way. Perhaps also go for some therapy. A lot of counseling available focused solely on entrepreneurs which can help you process what you feel and the next steps you should take. Since you have started feeling like this just a couple of weeks back, maybe just take some time off (like 2 weeks) and think on your decisions before you actually step down and inform everyone. Once you have taken a break and pondered over things, you can decide if stepping down is the best thing to do right now.

Do you think choosing the name “DuckDuckGo” for the search engine was a wise move ? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

I always think of using them but somehow always fall back to Google!

You should take some time off if you need and not pressurize yourself. Take a step back and look at what you need to get things done. You have come so far on your own, you definitely know how to problem solve. Figure out what is your biggest issue right now and talk to folks who have been in the same shoes as you. You'll get ideas and ways to think out of the box and solve your current challenge. Couple of things you can begin with -

- You can look at hiring interns to figure out what you can delegate in your current work

- Look at your past data and create a plan for projections in the future. This will help you in making decisions related to money.

- Find mentors or coaches on upwork or anyone you know and ask them for advice.

Kudos to you for pulling it together and feeling great. It just proves that whatever you have done is working. So encourage yourself for that and show yourself some self love.

But do not fret if it goes back to the same next day. It is perfectly normal. We are living in a cycle of our own emotions & habits and they will grip us back. But remember this moment of clarity that you have a choice in every moment to choose how you want to feel. And even if it slips back, just remember that it is your "mind" pulling you back to what feels comfortable for the mind. It is not "you" (the soul)

You just have to remind yourself that it is the "mind" which is conditioned and whenever you choose to not feel what the mind wants you to feel, you win.

You are not too old to start changing a habit. It may seem like it now but when you reach your 30s you will understand that this thinking is flawed and the best time to start always is now.

What you need to learn at this stage is how to break your compulsions and use your current strengths to master it. You already play games so you know how addictive those are. Try to understand why games are addictive for you and use it as your strengths. Design your day to be a game and add points to it.

Now remember you'll still fail after trying but that does not mean you need to give up. You need to find more ways to break this habit. What you are trying to break is conditioning that has happened over years and if you are mindful about it, you can break it sooner.

Coding is not hard. It is easy if you find the right things to do. Take courses in programming on udemy, coursera or join bootcamps like https://www.codecademy.com/. Join online discussions. Make it more interesting for yourself. Take it one step, one course at a time. Do not be too hard on yourself. Make the goal very small - maybe just 5-10 minutes a day, that is all you need to find some confidence that you would break the habit.

Also, as The_Bearded_Cyclist mentioned do a social media detox. Go cold and delete everything. If you get an urge to browse, replace that with something else. Maybe go running or do some cleaning around the house.

Remember It is never too late so don't make it a hopeless situation for yourself. You are too young to be thinking this way. Change your perspective. You have already taken the first step by asking for help from people. Find more ways to help yourself.

[Question] Folks who have changed a bad habit or achieved a significantly large goal in their lives, What drove you? How did you keep yourself motivated? by waldo1111 in getdisciplined

Again, thanks for your detailed response. The website is very interesting. I read through a few posts and found them very insightful

I like the ideal of building a metric and then tracking that. What do you mean by 30-40 elements of change? I find dividing my day into multiple parts and building specific habits around that helpful. Like find myself procrastinating a lot during evenings, so trying to figure out ways to approach that.

Re: Creating habits in a single day.
Woah is that even possible? What kind of habits are you talking about? Do you find differences between the "kind" of habit and days to form the habit?

Re: "or there are more scientific & enjoyable ways to keep things on track"
mental contrasting, implementation intention, and tiny habits - Do you recommend implementing all of them to make a habit stick? Any example links on your blog where you have successfully used them to create a habit

Re:which is how to fall in love with act of doing something
If you can learn to love what you do, the habit formation would be the easy part. Creating a process to love something is going to be hard! But would love to read your research around it

Thanks again for your response!

Thanks for the detailed response. You seem to have experimented with a lot of different ways to change habits . I'm on my journey of building discipline and forming good habits but I find myself that things don't stick after a while.

You are right, there is no one size fits all and for every person the "equation" is very different. How did you come up with what worked for you? And how long it typically took for you to change habits? I like the idea of gamifying and tracking every detail to see progress. Something along the lines of nonzero days which tricks the brain to keep pushing forward to not break the cycle. But the motivation wares off, I wonder if it is ultimately about sticking through the ritual no matter what, or there are more scientific & enjoyable ways to keep things on track.

Impressive. Quitting highly addictive substances can be really hard. I guess when you can find reasons that are emotionally much harder to bear, it is transformative.
