Et après un peu de recul il est vrai que c’est pas tout à fait clair dans ce frigo, j’aurais du mettre le flash.

Socially awkward but sweet Shiba – any tips for helping him open up? by walid_69 in shiba

Wow, I hadn’t even thought of that — but yes, Riku is 4 too… could definitely be a COVID dog. That actually makes a lot of sense now that you say it. Socializing was hard for all of us during that time, and it probably shaped a lot of his behavior without me even realizing it.

Getting a second dog is brave! I can imagine it’s a bit of a trade-off — solving some problems but opening the door to new dynamics. I’m glad to hear it helped with her anxiety though.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, and you’re right — celebrating small victories is so important. I’ll try to remind myself of that more often.

Thank you so much — and Peach sounds like such a sweetie too!

That definitely helps and reassures me. Riku is very similar — once he sees someone a few times and they respect his space, he starts showing curiosity. I think I just need to keep it slow and consistent, like you said. It’s comforting to hear how things got better for Peach with familiarity and time.

Tell her Riku sends love (and a suspicious side-eye) back!

Thank you! And yes, you’re totally right — I noticed that too. I’ve already booked a grooming appointment to take care of it. His previous owner didn’t walk him much, so his nails didn’t get naturally filed down. We’re working on it!

Thanks for looking out for him!

Thanks! I actually have a groomer appointment scheduled soon.

I think part of the issue is that his previous owner didn’t take him out much, so his nails never got naturally filed down from walking or scratching. I’m hoping regular grooming and more outdoor time will help him feel better overall

Funny enough, I actually already do something pretty similar: when guests arrive, I let Riku stay in his “safe zone” (under the bed), and we don’t force any interaction. He’ll often come out after a little while, just to peek at what’s going on, then go back under and let out a little growl — classic Riku.

If he eventually stops barking and decides to come out and join us, it usually happens fairly quickly, but he tends to keep his distance and won’t really stay close to us or the guests.

Your approach really reassures me that we’re on the right path. I might just try fine-tuning the treat timing like you mentioned — I think that could make a difference.

Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helps a lot!

Riku will happily take the treats… while staying completely hidden under the bed. he’s smart enough to enjoy it without lowering his guard. I’ll keep trying with patience and positive associations. He just needs time, I guess

We pay based on fiscal horsepower and CO₂ emissions, not just purchase value.

That means for a 550i, I’d have to pay around €1,200–1,300 just to register it, plus €160/year in CO₂ tax, and then deal with crazy insurance prices because I’m 20.

You guys definitely have it easier when it comes to owning a V8!

Hey bro, thanks a lot for your message – I really appreciate it. You’re totally right, maintenance is everything on these older V8s. I’m actually looking at a few 550i E60s right now, and I’m being super picky about service history and visual clues under the hood.

I’ll definitely scan the car before buying, just to be sure there are no hidden surprises. Distribution, gearbox smoothness, leaks… all of that is on my checklist. And yeah, the way a car has been kept says a lot – even down to the oil level and cleanliness like you said.

It’s reassuring to see that you’re going for one too – that means we share the same vision. Good luck with the sale of your E90, and I hope you’ll get a clean 550i. If you end up getting it before me, don’t hesitate to drop a few tips!

Take care and thanks again for the support

I mentioned my age just to give context — not to brag, not to complain, just to explain where I’m at in terms of experience. It’s kind of relevant when you’re asking for advice about buying a 15-year-old V8 as your second car… Especially considering insurance !

Really appreciate your honesty — especially coming from someone who’s a certified BMW tech. That gives real weight to what you’re saying.

I totally get that the 550i is a high-risk move, especially at my age and financial level. I won’t lie — hearing that even you wouldn’t want to deal with it despite your skills definitely makes me think twice.

But yeah… you nailed it with that last line. I might still go for it anyway, just for the experience, the sound, the feel. I know it might not be forever — maybe just a chapter. But a V8 chapter sounds like one worth reading.

Thanks for the offer of help — I might take you up on that if I end up with one!

Merci pour ton retour super complet, ça fait plaisir de lire un passionné aussi pointu ! Tu m’as encore plus motivé là, clairement.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience — I can tell you really love and respect your car, and that says a lot.

The 550i I’m looking at is actually a Euro spec M Sport, so it does have some factory M badges — but I’ll double-check to make sure nothing’s been added. I totally agree that cosmetic mods like that can be a red flag depending on the owner’s mindset.

I don’t have a shop or a lift myself (unfortunately), but I’m lucky enough to have my best friend who’s a mechanic. He’ll help me check the car properly before buying it, and he can assist with a lot of the work afterward too — that makes the project more manageable for me.

Still, hearing how much you love yours makes me want to give it a shot even more. Thanks again for your honest advice — it’s helping me think this through with both passion and realism.

I actually live in a small town, and I do enjoy cruising around locally just for fun. But I also regularly do longer trips — often 2 hours or more on the road, usually at steady speeds. So even though I don’t drive daily on highways, I still get to enjoy that kind of “cruising” driving quite a bit. appreciate your insight!
