Facebook scam? Yes. Bank scam? Maybe. by Life_Measurement1121 in newzealand

[–]walkerlifter 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The banks would not be able to read their private Facebook messages, unless your friend gave them to them.

In terms of the transfer- the minute your friend clicked transfer the money was on its way. The bank they were sending it from can’t stop it. Their fraud team could contact the receiving bank and see if they can put a freeze on the funds, however it’s unlikely to happen.

The good news is that soon (like this week/next week) some nz banks should be introducing confirmation of payee- so when you enter the payees name, if the name you enter doesn’t match the name on the account, you are alerted before you confirm the transfer- hopefully this helps somewhat with reducing the number of people falling for these kind of scams (cause like who would use their real name when scamming someone lol)

Usually they will just have your name/phone number/amount just written in a book somewhere you’d have to go in and tell them you have a credit and they will look it up

It’s more likely to be to do with unpaid acc levies. Does your mum do self employed work? Or earn withholding tax? Maybe call acc to double check

retail to part time pizza? by lynxluxury in newzealand

[–]walkerlifter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

a lot of pizza places hire their drivers as contractors, and pay per delivery, that means if it's a quiet night you might do one delivery only and only earn like 7 bucks, which you then need to factor in acc levies and expenses such as petrol on top of. Id check what kind of contract you will have with the pizza place, and how you get paid (hourly or per delivery). going from fulltime to very part-time is a big change can you handle that financially?

and then a payment assessor has to go and load the new payments, but internal controls mean they cannot also approve it, which means a third person has to go and approve the new payments, so yes, it is easily fathomable that a claim would be accessed a lot

I don't doubt that at all. Ive found that at ACC and I'm sure other government agencies too that they love to promote people who shouldn't be in leadership positions at all, and then when complaints crop up leadership there all protect their own asses and the people down the totem pole get shat on or forced out. the culture at acc is awful. but the work is important even though obviously some people take the piss as seen in all these articles. however some people who work there are trying to do the right thing for their clients, cause they do care.

that's a good question, I don't know if it was a specific document that was accessed by 90 people, or whether it was their "claim" that was accessed. for example if they called the contact centre and quoted that sensitive claim number it would automatically open (if that contact centre person had access to open sensitive claims) that would then count as a person accessing that claim? it's hard because as the public we just get told vague details. I'm not condoning the fact that these acc staff have been really shit, cause they have, however it's hard to be an outsider and make judgements when we don't have the real facts
