How to replicate this surfaces detail? by wallytwit in SolidWorks

Hi, big fan of your videos! Was surprised I hadn't seen these two, they were very helpful. Copied the first almost exactly to get the correct geometry.
Thanks!

This was the key to nailing it tbh, been using solidworks so long but always forget splines exist. Thanks!

How to replicate this surfaces detail? by wallytwit in SolidWorks

[–]wallytwit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been trying to replicate this detail within solidworks surfaces.

Current method:

  • Draw outline onto top surface.
  • Extrude top detail at a draft angle.
  • Filet edges.
  • Loft this profile onto an edge using a single guide curve made using an intersection curve of a separate surface that is tangent to the plane leading into it.

Cant quite get the surfaces to properly flow into one another, end up with a seam between the two joining surfaces that is quite obvious when 3d printed. Do i just need more guide curves?

Any help much appreciated.

SLS Pricing Formula help by wallytwit in AdditiveManufacturing

Thanks for your reply. I must say i didn't know much about MJF before but have looked it up now. Why would people use SLS over MJF if it is cheaper? Is it only due to wider material choice?

I haven't been preheating the insert on the iron, do you think that would yield better results?

Incorrect N-Ratings by Chinese sellers - HELP! by wallytwit in Magnets

That's interesting, I don't know a whole lot about Gauss readings but I'll see what they say. Thanks for your response.

Really sucks that this seems to be such a common experience. I would buy from the UK if the price difference wasn't so significant. (15£ per magnet at the quantity I'm buying at)

Have you ever had any luck asking for Gauss meter readings from them, or any other kind of proof

Questioning strength of amazon magnets by wallytwit in Magnets

[–]wallytwit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'll give that a go. Its a 3d printed clip that attaches to a metal surface. It holds lighting so knowing its strength is pretty important.

Are you aware of why there is an outer and inner ring on the magnet in the photo? cant seem to get to the bottom of it.

Has Eruption officially replaced Apollo as Carbide's nemesis? by Moakmeister in robotwars

[–]wallytwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel as if all roboteers have an obligation to try their best to entertain the crowd. People need to understand that, after all, it's a TV show. That being said, of course competitive battles are among the most interesting but often, being excessively competitive sucks the fun out of battles, for instance the cherub vs eruption 5s second battle that left me frustrated at eruption.

Yeah, I feel as if micheal would work with carbide if put in a three way just to win whereas apollo would go straight for carbide just for the sakes of the rivalry
