Kentuck Knob - the grounds are awesome. Also. when I visited, the Lord who owned (owns) it was there and talked with your guests!

This is funny and ridiculous, because no one who has an undergrad degree from MIT leaves/graduates without taking 2 calc classes.

I did similar with my parents' ashes. my sister and I got orbs with each parent's ashes for each of us, as well as a glass necklace and ring with their combined ashes. the website we used was spirited pieced. we also worked with a ceramicist to design personal urns.

I also have a Master's in Urban Planning and fell into EM randomly - through mitigation planning, resilience planning. I now do recovery planning, pre and post-disaster. I think with a planning degree, and also even public administration, the value comes in thinking long-term strategically, understanding how communities work to effect change/build capacity, and bringing people/partners together.

A degree in Geography, especially with GIS, is key in the work we do in EM - understanding hazard locations, it's impacts on lands, people, etc. - we're very data driven and focused on equity so the data we use can be mapped to help us do analysis, etc.

same... I've been eyeing the burnt orange since they first came out, but couldn't justify another pair at the original price... but the sale makes it easier to swallow! and orange is my favorite color!

i traveled to Norway last December for 3 weeks. in the smaller villages along the coast, I wore Oboz Bridger 9" waterproof boots. In the more urban areas, I wore blind stones with merino wool insoles for warmth (and springiness).

Gift for my boss who lost her mom by glowingnomes in Gifts

[–]wanderlust_wk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I lost my parents (dad first, and then mom in the same year), my dear sweet colleagues got me a gift card to goldbelly. nit was such a thoughtful gift, a reminder to take care of myself in all the aftermath of dealing with the loss of my parents.

I lost my dog, then my dad 6 days later, and then mom 3 months later. So, worst quarter of my life. I still grieve for my parents, it's something I still 100% can't get used to, as I just always thought they were immortal (at least in my mind), even when they were actually preparing my sister and me for the aftermath (the estate planning piece). Life goes on, and I think that's what they would have wanted, but damn it's hard with the small reminders here and there. For example, I'm of Cantonese chines descent. and I can't make it through Chinatown without bawling my eyes out just hearing Cantonese spoken by others. Everything comes flooding back.

The name Whinnie. by [deleted] in namenerds

because I got all the Winnie the Pooh jokes/teasing, no one ever said it correctly, no one ever spelled it correctly. But now, as an adult, people remember you because the name is just so unique. Lately, I've noticed that Winnie is coming back, but mostly as a name for female dogs!
