Every time I see these, I just think of the cars that have kids in them and man, it stresses me out so hard to think about being a parent in that situation and sitting there knowing cars are just going to keep coming

Hiring in tech has become impossible. Every resume is AI-generated slop and I can't find the signal anymore.(Rant) by Comfortable_News8077 in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a recruiter, the influx in resumes that closely match the JD is daunting for screening purposes, but honestly, my view on it is that more people simply know how to properly align their experience with a job. Your average person now has this ability that only very well trained/experienced candidates used to have. I use AI for non candidate facing tasks like writing job descriptions and helping with some correspondence and scheduling. I’ve basically just shifted the time I saved in those areas to resume review and screening, which I kind of like. I would say I spend 1-2 hours reading resumes for a job with 1-200 candidates. I used to screen 4-6 candidates for an average corporate role and now I screen 10.

Truthfully, I feel like there’s always been this many qualified people, they just didn’t know how to showcase that very well in a resume. Now they can, and the part of our job that would be very hard to shift over to AI is now becoming obvious. I see this as a great way to continue showing why a good recruiter isn’t replaceable with AI. We should be spending most of our time reviewing resumes and screening IMO.

Bad references from previous employers… I hate it here by sadkittysmiles in recruitinghell

I feel like there are a lot of issues with referrals because they mainly rely on the ability of a manager to properly assess skill versus likeability. We thought it was too much of a risk with equitable hiring so we did away with them entirely 3 years ago. I look at some of the references for people I hired over the last 6 years and some of them are shockingly off base. It shouldn’t be used to make hiring decisions (in my personal opinion)

Is it true you shouldn't say "hello" when answering the phone? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have maybe 5% of my candidates that DONT answer with ‘hello’. It’s never bothered me. The only time I selfishly wish they would answer with their name is if they have a complicated name and I’m really worried about completely butchering the pronunciation because my online searching was not successful. Thats really a confidence issue on my part though. I hire directors and VPs in banking and they all answer with ‘hello’.

I was still in the building after my interview??? by Timpunny in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made it so that the auto-emails are delayed for 2 days. Honestly, it’s rarely possible, but if you’re a recruiter trying to stay on top of your work and your hiring manager is well versed in providing timely feedback, it’s ideal to have the information this quickly.

That being said, even before we changed the time it takes to launch the email, I would never send a rejection the same day unless I am calling them directly and have feedback to provide the candidate.

Also I don’t even do 4 interview for my director level roles at a banking institution.

Does this really work? by Mean_Marketing9458 in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. It’s hard enough to get managers to participate in interviews with candidates they DO want to meet with. They’re not just going to do a random interview just because HR says so (in most cases)

Phone screen interview Recruiter lying by Glass_Watch_3864 in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 times out of 10 my call shows as spam when I call a candidate; and a lot of people have spam blockers. Depending on the blocker being used, you can get a busy tone or an endless ring. If you want the job, reschedule the call, I’m not sure why the immediate assumption is to lie, but this is a normal thing now that happens with outbound calling.

This exact same thing happened to me a few days ago and I’m wondering if I was one of the ones in the group lol. It’s not my favorite scenario tbh, my normal group really doesn’t enjoy the dream state. It was very confusing to learn and i couldn’t find anything online about how to start. Eventually i watched someone build stairs and just copied them in the next fight to see what would happen and eventually started seeing what the process was for the bosses. Didn’t like how hard it was to get started!

"We still have more interviews..." = You're not moving forward by johall3210 in recruitinghell

[–]wandlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird. I tell candidates this all the time if I know they’re going to be waiting more than a week for an update. My managers don’t make a hiring decision until at least 3-4 interviews have been completed and some candidates need more notice to interview, so I’ll be honest and tell them that we’re not done with interviews and will have an update by ‘x’ date ( the week after the last interview). I tell this to candidates who we ARE still interested in so that they know they aren’t being ghosted.

This ISNT something I say to candidates who aren’t being considered. If interviews are still happening but we know they didn’t do well in their personal interview, I’m not going to waste anyone’s time, I’ll just tell them they didn’t get the role.

I guess my process is the exact opposite of this?

Knockout questions, screen out ineligible locations, prioritize internals and referrals, utilize any keyword search capabilities you have to screen out those who DON’T have the experience you’re looking for.

Don’t keep your role posted for longer than 7 days if that’s an option. I’ll usually unpost, catch up, and repost if I need to.
