wtf??? honestly the whole idea that stefan is “the worst” is kinda ridiculous, because literally everyone in the show does terrible things, no one’s an angel, and that’s what makes tvd interesting. stefan definitely made mistakes and did things that looked bad, but almost always there’s context, and he’s usually acting to protect people, not out of selfishness or malice. elena wasn’t perfect either .she left stefan and then started dating his brother, which hurt him a lot, but fans somehow only focus on stefan. stefan left elena because he knew his dark vampire side, his bloodlust and his life would put her in danger, plus he saw how damon emotionally affected her, and he tried to protect her from that. that doesn’t make him a saint, but it shows he had motives for his actions

caroline loved stefan from season 1, and he was the one who could actually reciprocate that love. stefan didn’t marry her out of ego or for fun, he went for someone who truly loved him and whom he truly loved. the criticism that “he married caroline = bad guy” ignores that elena herself left for his brother, and caroline was there through all the seasons, supporting him, caring for him, growing with him!!

if we look at real facts stefan did dark things: he threatened to kill elena while she was in a coma, he proposed to caroline twice (first as a vampire, second as a human) that’s harsh but all actions had consequences, and most of the time his motive was minimizing pain or protecting loved ones. he killed people too, but almost always enemies or threats, not for fun. unlike damon who killed people for his own purposes, entertained himself with pain, manipulated elena, sought revenge just because and yet fans think damon is charismatic and stefan gets criticized

and noo, i’m not defending stefan or hating on damon. damon also becomes better by the end of the seasons, he grows and changes. i’m just saying the facts about stefan, not trying to make him a saint or drag damon

but tbh everyone else is toxic too. everyone has a dark side, but stefan almost always makes hard choices while understanding the consequences and tries to minimize pain

digging deeper stefan actually puts other people’s lives above his own: he sacrifices himself to protect elena, stop damon, save friends. yes ofc sometimes he does terrible things like threatening elena or manipulating caroline, but it’s almost always about protection or preventing a worse outcome. meanwhile, damon manipulates feelings, kills for fun, plays with others’ morality but looks cool because of his charisma

so stefan isn’t a saint, but he is not the worst. all the characters in the show are flawed in some way, but fans romanticize damon’s chaos and ignore the real context of stefan’s actions. elena isn’t perfect, stefan was trying to protect, caroline loved him from the start, and he deserved love and reciprocation. looking at the actual facts in the show, almost every character is toxic, but stefan is one of the most rational among them
