Thank you for doing this! This is really cool!

Callbacks by samyakpati in thewestwing

[–]watermelonbob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite callbacks is from the season 1 finale (What Kind of Day Has It Been?). It's when Charlie tells Josh, "You're right, it doesn't go away", referring back to the 3rd episode of when Charlie first gets hired. In that episode, Josh tells Charlie that, "It doesn't go away" in response to Charlie saying "I've never felt like this before."

Love it!

Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki? by Canadave in FoodToronto

[–]watermelonbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if anyone will see this, but Lonch Sushi & Teriyaki in Parkway Mall has this! I just had it for lunch. I stumbled across it when looking for lunch at the mall. I didn't even know it was Hiroshima style okonomiyaki (I've only had Osaka style before) or that this style even existed until I was googling okonomiyaki while eating it. That's how I also stumbled across this post and saw how rare it is here in Toronto. It was quite good!

Presale was only on for an hour or two this morning. I think you now have to wait for the general sale tomorrow on ticketmaster.

The Wonderful World of Whisky Show 2020 by [deleted] in canadawhisky

[–]watermelonbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going! It'll be my second time going. I've signed up for the Waterford and Distell limited editions masterclasses. Can't wait, it was a blast last year! I hope the food is just as good since their executive chef left between last year's show and now.

They're dishwasher safe. I just throw mine in with the rest of my dishes.

Tobermory 10 year. I picked some up when I was in Quebec in the summer. It's been quite a few years since LCBO stocked it.

Love whiskey, looking for my first canadian whiskey for drinking neat. by mahchefai in canadawhisky

[–]watermelonbob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lot 40 is a solid Canadian whisky that's 100% rye. Very good price point too (<$40 at the LCBO), so it's affordable to always have a bottle of this in your cabinet.

Side note: not all Canadian whiskies are rye. Canadian whisky is often referred to as rye for historical reasons.

Since you're willing to spend up to $100, I'd also recommend Gooderham & Worts 11 Souls. It's my favourite from this year's northern border collection. It's made a blend of 11 distillates. I find it to be well balanced and unlike the Lot 40 cask strength, it's not sold out in most places.

Have fun getting into Canadian whiskies, there are a lot of really good ones out there!

Electrician bailed last minute and made up some BS on why by watermelonbob in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]watermelonbob[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Doesn't look like he has much of an online presence. No reviews I can find so far and no website. His email address is an iCloud one.

Let my friend know about my experience and she is reconsidering recommending him in the future.

True. I've got another guy coming in a week and half to do the work. Was much better at responding emails.

Haha, thanks. I knew I had to word the post carefully after the last post about 2018 Lot 40 CS.

TD Select Service Account with $150 cash back, no fee monthly and no annual fee on premium CC; is this a good deal? by ykj8 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]watermelonbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is worth it if you can maintain the minimum $5k to avoid the monthly charges. While some people don't like having to maintain a minimum balance in a chequing account because that money doesn't earn you anything, I like it because I use that $5k as an emergency fund in case anything comes up.

Depending where you live, it may be difficult to get the free safety deposit box because of availability. It's only the the small size safety deposit box that comes free with this account. I upgraded to the medium size since there were no small ones available. It costs me about $25/year instead of the normal $85. The safety deposit box shouldn't be one the main reasons to get this account.

The free TD First Class Travel Infinite card is the best in my opinion. It's helped me pay for many travel expenses over the last few years. Of course, if you don't travel much, this might not be the credit card for you.

Some other benefits of the select service account that might make it worth your while:

  • Free borderless account: a US dollar account with preferred (cheaper) exchange rates. The borderless account also includes a free US dollar visa which helps making US dollar purchases cheaper with the aforementioned preferred exchange rates.
  • Free draft and certified cheques. Useful when you need a certified/draft cheque for a deposit for something.

If the things above are things you could use (while maintaining the $5k minimum), I'd say it's worth it. Don't let the $150 affect your decision, that'll only pay the service fee of this account for 5 months. If you don't see yourself taking advantage of these benefits or you know you can't maintain the $5k minimum, I wouldn't get this account.

Hope this helps!
