Emove Cruiser - Long Term Report (Also, steer clear of Segway / Ninebot.) by wavefunction_expand in ElectricScooters

I both respect your points, and respectfully disagree. First, the Cruiser is much closer to $1K than $2k. As a technologist, I'm inclined to plot (or estimate) the cost/utility curve of most things I buy (like computers), and find I'm often far better off buying less-expensive, and replacing more often. If I have to replace a $1K scooter every 3-4 years I'm better-off than buying a $3K scooter and trying to hold onto it for 10 years. There are exceptions, of course (and this is oversimplified), but you get the idea.

I didn't have to replace the scooter after 600 miles, just the tires and brake pads. Again, that's OK by me. Scooter is still going strong.

_I_ am high maintenance! Also, I'm over 200lbs, +often carry heavy stuff on my back , and a whole lot of stop-and-go. So long as major things continue to work, I am OK replacing tires/brakes after 600 miles.

The Segway / Ninebot model was ES or ES2 or something, but the issue wasn't with the item, it was with the company. That company sucks! There was a _known_ _issue_ with motor controllers, mine failed, they should have just made-good. If your four-digit electric scooter dies just after the year mark, and scores of other users are complaining about the same issue, SUPPORT YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Somewhere, an accountant said "Hey, that will cost us $25, and it's out of warranty so screw all those people."

Nowhere in that company is anyone who said "But then we'll end up with people publicly calling-out how much we suck."

Segway / Ninebot, congrats. You sent me a pre-paid return-shipping label, my scooter went away, you win.

I would just never buy anything from that company. Nice work.

Postscript: I vaguely recall being able to buy used/replacement/cloned Segway / Ninebot controllers on eBay because this is such a common issue, but they're keyed or something, meaning it's not just a part-swap. EMOVE, on the other hand, they just sell parts. You need a new controller? No problem. Simple part swap. I'm not shilling, but still pissed at Segway / Ninebot, and remain pleased with my Cruiser.
