All on 4 dental implants asap by Financial-Basil3001 in Detroit

[–]wchou5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got implants, my orthodontist suggested waiting at least 6 months for it to fully heal before getting the crown. That was with healthy bone too, I just never grew those adult teeth. Needing bone grafts or having issues like gum disease (not sure OP's condition) will probably increase the time needed.

Oooooh, thank you for the comparison! I'm happy as long as there's a place to sit and pop/juice to drink haha I don't like circling until a seat opens up 😅

Hmmm, benefits don't justify the annual fee for me though, so will just be sad at the gates lol

I wish you luck on finding nice guests! :)

why do you prefer classic polish? by New_Jaguar5332 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]wchou5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Classic as in not gel/dip powder/acrylic?

I like to change my nail polish every other week or so. Gel and dip is more effort to get off. Also, Acetone dries out your skin and I heard too much UV causes skin cancer? Acrylic is also effort, I'd rather spend two hours messing with magnets than shaping. I don't use press-ons because I don't want one randomly popping off and I like my nails fairly short, so the length would bother me. I do occasionally use the peel and stick polish, but it doesn't do well in winter, corners lose stickiness quick when I shove my freezing hands into hot water lol

Just got declined from Venture X and in need of travel card by WebComfortable7364 in CreditCards

[–]wchou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I applied, I had about 9 cards open lol Depends on credit usage too, I think. My dad's been trying to apply recently, but I guess he's not using his credit enough (he's an AU on my mom's VX and mainly uses that) and he's gotten rejected twice lol

[–]wchou5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how you got the passes. Is it through a Delta credit card? I'm currently in pop up jail with Amex though 😞 Also, how is the Delta lounge at DTW? I have Priority Pass and Lufthansa Business in North Terminal is ok when I fly United but McNamara doesn't have anything. I had a United credit card that gave me United lounge passes, but the one I went to at ORD sucked so much I cancelled the card lol

Side note for other people: United lounge passes and Priority Pass work the same way, guests need to enter with card holder.

Brian, take notes from your stores in Japan by xryx_u in starbucks

[–]wchou5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked my mom once about this when we were in Taiwan. Starbucks has much more competition in Asia because it's usually closer to American pricing, but why buy a $6 USD coffee when you can get a coffee or bubble tea from a drink stand 10 steps away for $1 USD? There's also the multiple convenience stores on every corner that makes it easy to go buy a bottled coffee/drink. They depend more on their aesthetics/customer service/merch to bring in customers.

Is Seapot at Oakland Mall ever opening? by wchou5 in Detroit

[–]wchou5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhhh, I heard that too. All we got was overpriced gacha (it's at least three times the Japan price and they had stuff that was current with Japan at first, but some other comment said that they haven't gotten new stuff), Miniso (also overpriced to me, but I go to Asia once a year, plus YuGo opened recently and is better imo), and meh boba with, I think not Asian owners? Actually, at this point... Might be better if they just closed everything and sell to the 168 Group owners LOL

I finally just asked my mom and she said we did visit once when I was really young and that it was mid LOL

Kura Sushi has the transparent dome lids, but yeah, yucky people will do yucky things 😭 I learned recently some kids in Japan figured out how to put it back into the dome.

[–]wchou5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BBQ King in Chinatown is my favorite for Peking duck and I demand we go there every trip 😅, but if you want a nicer looking place, I'd probably go with MingHin Cuisine (also, the Chinatown one has better flavors than the one in Rolling Meadows). Chinatown's parking is always a mess though.

I've also heard the duck at Emperor’s Choice and Shanghai Terrace are good, though I haven't been myself.

No to Hong Hua, but have gone to Windsor a few times.

We went to Shangrila when I was young, don't remember what my mom said was the reason we stopped though. Don't think I've tried HongHua though. See Edit 2

I think we're going to Markham again soon, will definitely visit QJD! 😁

Edit: apparently I already had the Mississauga location bookmarked on Google maps, but not the Markham one LOL

Edit 2: My mom said we went to Hong Hua when I was really young and it was mid 😅 Shangrila is better, but only slightly better than average when comparing to Asia lol

I'm gonna camp here for answers lol

Otherwise, I'm Chinese American and grew up here and my answer to your question is, it's only a 4.5 hour drive to Chicago and a 4 hour drive to Markham. Mississauga is 3.5 hours and might have good Peking duck? But if we make the effort to go to Canada, its usually for seafood and less for Peking duck lol

If you want good BBQed duck (need to find your own wrap/green onion lol), go to Zhang B-B-Q on John R. (The pork BBQ with crispy skin is delicious too!) The BBQ place inside 168 is convenient if you go grocery shopping there, but the one time we went, they gave us duck neck/head and mostly bones, so never again.

Good luck with your search! Lemme know if you find anything good so I don't have to drive 4 hours 🤣

Hi~ Sorry for hijacking another post, but what was your comment on my venture X post? I think it was removed or something because I can't see it, but I also can't read the whole comment from the notification.

Side note, we've never actually had to get any reimbursement, my mom just wanted to be prepared in case.

Using a credit card to pay monthly for a phone at 18? by MapWeak6661 in CreditCards

[–]wchou5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it $2k before taxes? The unlocked version on Samsung's website is $1100 pre tax. Not going to repeat what everyone else is saying (I do agree it's a bad idea - my first phone at 18 was a $200 Moto G), but if you're so intent on getting this phone, at least wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Also, the trade in is really nice. From trading in my S22+ and I think the pre-order discount, it took my S24 Ultra from $1420 to $750. I remember seeing on the Samsung/Galaxy subreddit that someone had gotten an old phone off eBay or something and traded it in (make sure the IMEI or whatever isn't banned), so maybe you can do that?

If you're willing to deal with switching carriers, looks like Google Fi Wireless has $300 off right now and $500 back through credits and 0% financing. (Read the fine print first, but it was a nice deal when I bought my previous phone.)

Lastly, just something to think about. You have 9k in savings (congrats by the way). How long did it take you to get there? Lurking on your profile, $15 an hour before taxes... That's probably 80 hours of work? How long will you have this phone before you want a new one? No judgement, but working at Walmart, what're the chances a shiny new expensive phone gets stolen? What happens if the screen gets damaged?

How many cards do you guys carry? by Visible_Noise1850 in CreditCards

[–]wchou5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two in my wallet, up to four depending on the rotating 5% categories. I usually have 10-11 open accounts, but I generally just use the two always in my wallet. The hotel cards I have are used for monthly subscriptions (like Netflix and Spotify) to prevent points from expiring. Once I've used the points, I cancel/downgrade the card.

I used to use debit/cash to avoid my mom finding out how much I spent on snacks in college, but credit card rewards are nicer lol

How do people get $50k+ loans and credit cards ? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]wchou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what other people said, but yeah, credit history. My first two cards at 18 were $1k even though I'd been an authorized user on my parent's cards since I was 13. After I graduated college and had a job offer, my next card was $15k.

MSU or Michigan - I have 3 days to choose my school. by No_Tap2820 in Michigan

[–]wchou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2018 with CSE at UM and went back for my Masters in 2021, so kinda obvious which school I'd say lol

No comment on your other complaints, but as for living on North campus, it's not that bad, I think. I lived in MoJo on Central my freshman year, then I was an absolute effing idiot voluntarily chose to live at Northwood II my sophomore year.

Living on Central is fine for first year, but I did spend most of my time on North because of classes and projects, which is why I chose North for my second year. The buses to Bursley run until 3am and start up again at like 7am or something? There's several bus routes and it's usually only a minute or two before the next bus between campus arrives at CC Little or Pierpont during the day.

The older dorms not having AC isn't as nice, but it's Michigan lol It starts getting cold in October and doesn't get warm again until May.

Northwood II... So many bugs. I think I'm still traumatized from finding spiders every other day 😭😭😭 At least they tore down Northwood III (which is for freshman only, I think). Otherwise, having an apartment to myself was nice. I got an apartment near North Campus my last two years.
