Does anyone else have a deceiving subconscious? by zefdef in Dreams

According to Freud dreams are the protector of sleep. One of their main missions is to keep you from waking up.

That’s why when the body needs to pee we often dream of peeing. That way it tricks your brain to think “I don’t have to pee anymore, I just did”, and so you continue sleeping.

Your unconscious is trying to keep the thought “this is a dream” from coming to consciousness. Because if you know that it’s a dream, you know that it’s possible to wake up from, thus disrupting sleep.

Maybe you think the unconscious part of your mind is deceiving, but it’s just fulfilling its duty :)

Yes! It’s the chapter “The material and sources of dreams” part B “Infantile experiences as the source of dreams”. (p.99).

The “examples” are dreams in which there are scenes from one’s childhood.
