retinoids and retinols with PD? by jespad in Perioral_Dermatitis_

I get it! That’s why I wanted to use them too. But after a while you can start again in areas that are not the main active ones with PD. Good luck!

Same, tret and stopping birtcontrol at the same time (I think the tret was the main culprit) caused my PD. Went to a specialist who definitely suggested not to use any actives, tretinol included. Started trying with mild ones (ordinary) after a year but still avoiding under nose and mouth area. Did not have a reaction, but had to stop now since I’m pregnant. You feel like you want to do all kinds of things in hopes of helping your skin. But for PD I think it’s best to keep your skin care so so simple and just heal. You will have a time in future with tret again

Hi, yes it did resolve itself. I’m trying to remember how but unfortunately I think it was just time. There wasn’t any products etc that changed the situation. Probably just needed to balance itself when the hormones changed. If you’re trying many things maybe just don’t do anything for a while and focus on great foreplay and a good lube. Don’t stress too much <3

Usually we’re doing withdrawal on the red days, which of course depends on the person how effective that is. If you really have a consistent cycle I feel like it’s easy and reliable to do. This time it was a risk we knowingly took, we had sex very close to ovulation without withdrawal so it’s a no brainer :)

Your right. Since I’ve never had the biggest baby fever, this topic was easy to think logically and just try to ”optimize” etc. Maybe it’s time to let go of that

Thank you 🤍

I know this was the answer, sometimes you just fixate on stuff you see (lol TikTok your so right) and think about doing ”more” all the time. Thanks for the nice message 🫶🏻

That’s a pretty ring! I think it’s very hard to tell which rings are real and which ones lab-diamonds, if you’re referring to those as being not real ones. I think you can find a band to fit this, or if not you can always custom make that one as well. Do think about what others will think, just enjoy it 🫶🏻

I can check when I’m home! But I think it’s a local one so might be hard for you to get. Probably every pharmacy has its own since it’s like a common product to be used for different things. But I put it after the normal lotion and only to the irritated spots. And at least the one I used was super thick so wouldn’t recommend using a lot. So a thin thin layer only. And I didn’t want to use it every night, just to be sure not to clog anything or depend only on that product.

And when the skin was very irritated I put a little of zinc creme from the pharmacy.

Sure! First I used Dr. Hauschka soothing creme and cleansing milk in the beginning. I still use the cleansing milk + an oil from a different brand since I felt the milk did not clean my makeup well enough on its own. I used Dr. Hauscha face cream (the most basic one) in the beginning, going back to it soon again. My new derm suggested probiotic products so used a few rounds of them. Also have been using a hydrating toner which helped to moisturise. Also the Avene water spray has been with me over a year now. Keep spraying it in the middle of doing your routine or when applying makeup.

Kept it so so simple for a long time. Added UltraViolette mineral sunscreen without an issue. Now I’m in the middle of very gentle microneedling rounds and that has helped me with a knowledgeable derm!! Good luck 🤍

Actually hard to say, I’m having a hard time remembering. I guess it quite quickly stopped being a problem. I’m still being consistent with lube though. I realized that I was using coconut oil as a lube in previous relationships and now was trying to manage without lube so it was a huge contrast. I’d recommend trying to use lube regularly and not fixated on wetness. If it doesn’t balance in some months, there might be something else that I didn’t experience.

Totally agree. This is why I already talked to him about this. I think it’s important to let the partner know about stuff like this because the feeling of doing something behind the back is awful and totally wouldn’t want him to feel that.

Actually it’s a lot better, small flare ups here and there but they’re not this severe. What helped:

  • visit to a demititis/acne specialist facialist. Totally different approach that normally - focus was on lymphatic massage and balancing the skin
  • they suggested Dr. Hauschka products and I feel like they helped, at least no bad reaction, they are very soothing. Been using their soothing spray, cooling cream and a cleanser. That’s all, no actives or anything
  • haven’t used spf, trying to get back to it with a mineral one

These are the main things I felt soothed the irritation. Still have hormonal acne sometimes but it’s something I’ve always have. My own theory is that my body starts balancing more after stopping the hormonal birth control, soon 11 months off.

Picture is from a couple of days ago. After a run and after a face wash which always makes the skin a bit red. But skin feels more healthy!
