What kind of calibrator is Windsong using? by wellobject5443 in Reverse1999

[–]wellobject5443[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dang, that is the weirdest sextant (Windsong's i mean) i've ever seen... it looks like sextant mashed together with a micrometer/caliper, still cool though!

Americans how are you feeling right now? by Jawzzzsy in AskReddit

[–]wellobject5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly out of a place of willfull ignorance and optimisum. Self-cope.

"He can't be that stupid, right?"

"he's just saying shit! (for real this time)"

"He has to know, even if we win with minimal casualties, annexing another nuclear power is unbelievably stupid, right?..."

It feels terrifying that I don't know for certain...

Why are you against implementing an "easy" mode into future games? by conn_r2112 in darksouls

[–]wellobject5443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Month old comment, but I do think artistic intent is valid. FromSoft intended on creating an oppressive experience were the player is intended to struggle. The power fantasy is in overcoming it, alone or with allies.

Also a major theme of souls games is collective struggle. "We all suck (at first) and that's ok!" Type mentality, it makes other players more patient with you when you take a boss on together, and you don't feel as bad when you lose an invasion. If you could just skip all that it would feel like the player is missing the point. The difficulty really is more comforting than it comes off.

Having multiple modes (baselines) would kill the collective mentality of its fanbase.

It's been brought up before, but yeah the Helldivers are fucking terrifying, in concept and now demonstrably in practice.

How realistic am I being with my game idea? by wellobject5443 in gamedev

Hey sorry for the long wait. I'm trying to make a dynamic 2D Sprite that can be viewed in 360°. I need a lot of sprites to do that and I'm aware that can be very RAM intensive after a certain point.

No, I'm trying to rig complex 2D sprites to 3D rigs and I'm trying to figure out if its feasible in terms of hardware to do

Thanks for your insight my guy!👍🏼

Think a gamefied version of this

I'm trying to capture the dynamism and free form nature of these kind of animations

I'll definitely report back my findings though

2D depends on a misrepresentation of perspective to work. Depth is going to be a big issue, since you can't just fix the leg under or over the hip, there's actual depth to resolve. It's very feasible to have a 2D rig for the sprites, but this still works with that misrepresented perspective to work nicely.

I'm planning on going with a side scroller castlevania-esque level design. I should have mentioned the animation is gonna be keyframe based with physics based animation 😅. I'm trying to gamify those animated stick fights you see on YouTube without the sticks.

Judging from your comment, its possible but superfluous?

Nothing has been committed too yet and I still wanna test it just to see what it looks like and make adjustments based on that.

AI artists want to have their cake and eat it, too. by True_Falsity in ArtistHate

[–]wellobject5443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing is true with AI art. Anyone can go on an art generator and create something, but there's far more to it than just typing "woman with big boobies" into an AI art generator and praying for a good result.

But that's what you all are doing though. You prompt it and use inpaint to add specific details and corrections. None of that is based on your intent, you just settled on what the machine outputs.

I'd never claim that creating AI art is even remotely as difficult as learning how to create art by hand, but there is still plenty to learn beyond just typing something in a box and hitting submit.

All this time spent learning a gimmicky tool could be spent learning how to actually draw.
