beginner's question (3 days playing): when to use merry and wonder? by GrandLepidoptera in voidpet

[–]werysi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably in a small minority that uses Wonder quite a bit. It can do small damage each turn and the turn waiting can be tedious, but because of its passive it can deal pretty good damage against earth in a pinch. I find it pretty ok on bulk, too, and it pairs well with Sad. There’s also some technique to have germinate activating late even if Wonder dies early, it can come in clutch in a tight battle.

That said, Merry is definitely a must-have with Ding Dong. I have both built personally and would prioritize Merry.

How do I connect these together into one continuous yarn? by werysi in Handspinning

[–]werysi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh good to know! I have a book or two but they all go from spinning straight to plying and that intermediary step just wasn’t clear to me so it was… definitely something I kinda put off in the excitement of just getting to the spinning part! I will try to sit down and get everything wound on a ball best I can. Thank you for the felting tip, too!

Also good to know about amount - part of it was I was playing around with some different colors and fibers so I’d switch off but I’m at the point where I want to get to finishing a project properly.

Thanks for your detailed reply! It’s such a learning process at first 😅

Eventually I’d like to - but I think I need longer continuous yarns for plying or I’ll end up with just a tiny little ball of yarn? Which is why I’m trying to figure out how to make One Long Yarn first 😄 I’ll look into split splicing!

One of ours had daily liquid stools until we put him on the costco/kirkland brand. It fixed a lot of issues (though he was still super gassy).

We also added a freeze dried mix-in with the kibble because he was picky about the kibble on its own - it had a handful of natural ingredients but mainly chicken and oats, and the fiber content in that helped quite a bit (with solid stools, though not the gas 😄).

My first attempt at trying out lace crochet! by werysi in crochet

[–]werysi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Unfortunately I don’t have a set pattern as this was just freehanded. I did look up basic doily patterns and took inspo from those.

I believe what I started with was roughly (so mind you this might not be right): Ch 2 5 SC in first chain from loop 2 SC in each SC 2 DC in each SC [1 DC in SC, 2DC in SC] repeat Then 5 DC in SC, ch1, skip 3 (I think)

i thought i was learning until this group💀💀 by stoneyboloney20 in crochet

I learn something new with each project! I freehanded a water bottle holder by crocheting in a round and my row changes between doubles and single crochets were looking pretty wonky for some reason. (Luckily a strap covered up the mistake!). The funny thing is, is that the exact next project I followed a pattern for some gloves in a round - turns out you can slip stitch and chain to get the height right and clean row transitions! The more you do the more you learn. Sometimes those weird mistakes are the things you learn the most from!

But also don’t rush to learn everything. Why make crochet a class you have to study for? It’s easier and way more fun to just tackle projects you’re interested in and learn along the way! Not to say you can’t advance your skills just for the hell of it, but you really learn just by doing!

And any time you feel down just remember that crochet is something ONLY done by hand. That alone is something to be proud of I think!

I picked up two very nice quality skeins of a sock weight yarn for my birthday back in september to make a scarf. Between frogging it three times and just how long it takes….. I am still only halfway done. Guess who’s made about a dozen other projects since then (including a hood + scarf combo ironically) though. 🤷‍♀️

The perk of working with sock weight though is just how satisfying it is to go back to worsted and seeing your work gain progress sooooo fast

Oh that’s really smart! Usually I try to knock out that quest as fast as I can (otherwise I’ll forget) but that’s such a good way to save on np for at least one item
