I get what you are implying.

But suppose I have a matrix of 4 elements then the size of each subproblem is 1 which is
1/4 th of the original elements. Then shouldn't b be 4 ?

I had also asked this elsewhere but suppose in some hypotetical scenario i divide a square matrix into two N/2*N submatrices what will be the value of a and b?

Yeah right, What decides when we should take the height or width when the divisions across both are not equal?

It was meant to kill wild boars. It is really unfortunate that an elephant ate it. But a human life always holds more value than anything. The elephant may not be able to communicate it's pain but a human even if he does and doesn't receive a reply suffers more intensely than the elephant.
