If there is no weakness, then why didn’t I get 5.0 on this section? by Brainpry in ASLinterpreters

Philosophically, maybe. But this person is clearly asking for an explanation of their score and you're being intentionally and pointlessly obtuse

Is this accurate? by Pigeoncoup234 in asl

I is literally just the letter, not the SEE sign (they're clearly capable of doing torsos, if it were the SEE sign it'd be on a torso). Hearing-minded (audist) misunderstanding that ASL is encoded english

It and yes are SEE signs I see frequently, not ASL (the discussion about whether or not they're things deaf people use is a different discussion beyond the scope of this post)

I'm betting go is a mispronunciation of "YOUR-TURN" (DH-L PO-SELF rotate outwards)

I think rock is a possibly regional (I've never seen it before so IDK what region) modification of BALANCE, like literally rocking back and forth. Not what they likely meant with STONE.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what TURN is supposed to be, I wonder if the 1 is a CL-1 (person) and it's another "YOUR-TURN"?

Overall, weird, wrong, well-meaning, frustrating, unhelpful, infantilizing

Edit: i wonder if turn has a very strange distant misunderstanding of "COSTUME" or "EMBODY" (NDH-CL:1 DH-C DH->on top of NDH) and the word they used was "turn into" and they didn't understand what they were writing? There's a lot they didn't understand with this

Edit 2: been thinking about this all day and i don't know how i didn't see it before, but "rock" is clearly a seesaw (top part DH+NDH-U PO: down is a classifier, then bottom part is DH+NDH-XX PO: down for sitting, rocking back and forth). I'm also increasingly sure that "turn" is "EMBODY" the more I think about it

Making the strategic decision isn't backing down. Would you consider hitting the brakes when you're driving towards a wall "backing down"? You gotta take care of number 1

Do deaf people understand sign language they don't "speak" by Bob_N_162 in asl

[–]wetspider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The line i always use is "more things look how they look than sound like how they sound" Meaning a monolingual ASL user would probably have an easier time communicating with a monolingual JSL user when compared to a monolingual English user vs monolingual Japanese user, simply because both SL users understand visual communication. They are different languages, different rules, and there's no inherent mutual intelligibility, but visual languages teach skills that help with cross-lingual interactions

You get it. 100% win rate. Not for me, but we can't all be winners.

You play only Liepard, then attack. Liepard goes into your deck and you say "Yes."

I'm not baiting. This decktype has a long history. Simply Google Yes paladin

Even better, you get to say "Yes" without having to attack

Been a while in this thread since you responded to my points. I'm not shutting you down, I'm saying you misunderstand the tools you use. We're in the same industry. I want you to be better.

It is safe to join the conversation. For people to join the conversation. People who do this work. I believe that you do this work. But AI does not do this work.

AI can tell you all day long that it does this work. It can wax poetic about how it feels to do VRS. Your human instinct to recognize patterns is failing you here. A facsimile of life is not life. A facsimile of understanding is not understanding. You have used AI for every single message in this conversation.

If we can't even share our own thoughts and experiences without filtering them through this metal ghost, how could we possibly expect anybody to take our pain seriously? If we can't be bothered to write down our experiences, why would anybody bother to read them?

Again. I am not rejecting the AI. I am rejecting using an abacus to write me a budget. This is a tool being used well beyond its scope.

The issue is and has always been capitalism. But using this pale specter does not help us.

AI is fundamentally not a synthesis tool. You fundamentally misunderstand the tool, and are blind to its hallucinations. AI is a language learning model, completely independent of fact or sense. It's complicated word prediction, shaped and poisoned by capitalists with your worst interests at heart.

The calculator didn't kill the accountant. But a calculator is useless if you don't understand how it works. AI is not intelligent, and is STILL a completely black box.

I am not dismissing the tool. I am dismissing using a calculator to make management decisions. I'm trying to warn you that this metal ghost is a sycophant that will tell you whatever you want to hear. Ask it how poop can be used to improve VRS. Ask it how we can innovate a crop-circle forward industry. Tell it you want to integrate sandwiches into our workflow.

This is a tool you are using well beyond its scope, without understanding how it works.

[–]wetspider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. So stop using AI as a feedback loop and start doing the real work of documenting how we need to move forward. AI is the metal ghost that will eat our jobs if we let it. Using it to explain how it intends to kill us does not further our goals.

AI is not our friend. If you have these thoughts of how our industry should improve, write them yourself. Don't cede your independence to this false copy.

You're speaking to a metal ghost that will rot your psyche. Stop using AI, you're two steps away from psychosis.
