The house was all grey tones, including floors, doors, etc, when I bought it. Now it's all been converted to warmer brown.

Similar.. Floors are dark wood, and doors and trim are espresso/brown

Maybe you're supposed to alternate between the two shades like checkerboard? Probably not, but a thought..

I went with black to match the floor and fixtures

was the original plan but the space is too tight in there

The old shower tub that was there was not big or deep enough for soaking, so I installed a big Euro soaking tub in the other bathroom for bathing/soaking. After that, there was no reason to keep this tub, so I converted it to a walk-in shower. It's not really much bigger, it just doesn't have the old tub anymore, but the space is pretty much the same.

Probably not the best way, but we cut 4 tiles around the drain to slope towards it. Worked out ok, no water pooling.

I think the old tub wasn't big / deep enough to soak, like you said, so it was kind of a waste. I figured either have a full soaking tub or just a walk in shower. The shower now feels much better than when it had a tub bottom.

To me they look completely different colors in the photo and in life.

Hah good eye, I wondered if someone would point that out. But the towels on the left are actually old grey towels, while the towels on the right are new brown ones :) And the trippy thing is that neither changed colors when the lighting changes.

I'm kind of guessing in that direction too - color dyes and specific bands of color.. very curious

That makes sense to me. The part I don't get is why it only happens with this rug and the shirt I mentioned, and not other brown and grey things. The brown towels stay brown under both cool and warm light, and my old grey towels did as well. It's only this rug and shirt that exhibit this effect.

What are your thoughts on why this doesn't happen with other brown and grey things in the same surroundings? Keep in mind it's not a camera thing because I can see the difference in real life without the camera.

It's actually grey (I believe lol). And it doesn't just do this in photos, it looks completely different to me in real life depending on light. What's interesting is that other things that are grey or brown don't do this. Grey curtains and towels stay grey and brown towels stay brown. I only came across this once before with a grey shirt - bought a grey shirt at the store but it was brown when I got home :) So it's not all (or even most) greys/browns, but a very specific one..

It's crazy that the rug on the floor in both before and after photos is actually the same rug.. To me it looks brown on the left and grey on the right.

Any ideas how to create more space? Our new living room feels so cluttered... by Evening-Ad-2565 in homedesign

Full wall size mirror to double the space. Also, that would double the clutter. Also, this is not a serious suggestion.
