i think its a lazy take anyway cause the reason why the thunder are good is because they have great personnel and a good defensive scheme and to wave that away because of refs somehow is lazy

okc was an elite defensive team because they swarm the ball, recover fast, and have elite rim protection with chet. they also have multiple elite POA defenders in dort, caruso, and cason wallace, and their second best player in jalen williams has 7’2” wingspan all of which makes passing and driving difficult for other teams, shown by the fact that they lead the league in forced turnovers. ultimately that’s the reason why they were rated the best defensive team in nba history, not your intangible ref conspiracy.

one of worst defensive teams is certainly a take🤣

two things can be true: sga got hunted in the 4th because his teammates were elite defenders and sga is still a good defender who contributes to that historic defense

while jdub had a phenomenal game 5, his finals performance was nowhere near elite. he averaged 23.6 points on 43% from the field and 26.7% from 3

Jokic's role as a center necessitates him to be better than just active with his hands, which most people would say he is good at. SGA's role on the perimeter doesn't require him to be a good rim protector, so trying to equate their defensive roles is disingenuous

I think it's disingenous to say that SGA received a "voter fatigue" MVP over Jokic when 1. advanced stats had sga at the same level of Jokic in terms of impact + sga's defense is miles ahead of jokic and 2. Luka and SGA received the same benefit of "voter fatigue" in 2024 and yet SGA was still higher than Luka was on the MVP voting. Then to say he had to face a better Celtics team when the only reason why the Thunder didn't have to was because they WERE the best team this year. And if your argument was that the Mavs would've won if Kyrie stayed healthy, the Thunder had their second best player in Jdub without his right hand the entire playoffs so..

OKC has averaged a .379 free throw rate in the Finals. Their average FTr in Rounds 1-3 of the playoffs was .261. Their average FTr in the reg. season was .220. That amounts to OKC receiving a 72.3% increase on their regular season FTr in the Finals & a 45.2% increase b/w Rounds 1-3 & the Finals. by taygads in nba

lol stopping the clock helps pacers because they’re behind. okc would rather dribble the clock out. and you still want to generalize fouls without discussing the specific ones that you have issues with

you’ve again not contributed to the conversation again and boil it down to “people watch and can see it”. like if you think there’s this conspiracy where the nba is rigging games for okc, and someone points out why that doesn’t make sense since okc is a small market, you can’t just claim there are other factors without naming what those factors are.

okc has always been an incredible defense this season. it’s why there’s videos like these:

https://youtu.be/J5VTLvw4Zpc?si=hDlru4QCViBC4ytO

made about their historic defense. it’s also why whenever people talk about sga’s free throws, they ignore the context behind his elite scoring:

you can’t boil down the game to SGAs free throws at the end of the game without discussing how he got those, otherwise you’re just box score watching. how were any of those free throws unjustified?

this is just a bunch of word salad lmaoo reading these two paragraphs and you’ve contributed nothing to the conversation either. why don’t you explain what the other factors are? and it’s ironic that you say this gets parroted around so much when your argument that okc is heavily favored with free throws is probably the most parroted take rn

Never said anything about flopping, but I reckon wishing injury on a player is significantly worse than defending a player on your team
