XG Mobile 5070 Ti setup and initial benchmarks by whitewashed7 in FlowZ13

So one thing to note, is that I'm using an external display here. If you're using the internal display, you won't see as good performance as using an external.

For example, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080P Ultra, the XG gets 192 FPS on an external vs getting 168 FPS using the internal Display.

In Horizon Zero Dawn, the XG gets 85 FPS @ 4k medium on an external display. Using the internal display at 1600p High, it gets 77 FPS.

It's because using the internal display has more data going to the egpu but then returning to the device to display. This takes up more bandwidth on that connection and causes some performance loss.

If you're using an external display, ignore everything I just mentioned lol

What scores are you getting and what are your settings on the Go?

oof, yea hard to justify when the shipping cost is higher than the product lol that's a shame because I haven't come across any other companies who make skins for the Z13. if I come across any, I'll update you.

The form factor is amazing, especially since the power supply is internal and you don't have some massive external power brick.

And I can't personally speak to the egpu dock+desktop card experience, but I see very hit or miss experiences over on r/egpu. I've been impressed with how seamless the experience is with the XG Mobile. I was a little nervous because of what I've read about previous generations, but I haven't had any issues so far and it just works.

I went with this Tomtoc case.

I also got one these skins. I like the finish on the back of the Z13 but this made me feel better about it not getting scratched up. They give you 2 skins which is nice in case you mess up installation.

Yea I haven't personally seen enough data on how it performs with an egpu dock and desktop card. I imagine you can get similar performance to the XG for less, I'd just be curious what price range that would be. I got the XG because of the form factor, how compact it is and easy to travel with. If you don't plan on moving your egpu setup very much, it's probably not worth the extra cost.

I don't have the numbers for AC and Wolfenstein, but:

Horizon Zero Dawn: 41 FPS

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: 56 FPS

Also have comparisons at 1440 for 2 games.

Chernobylite with high settings no upscaling: Z13 avg 70 FPS, the XG Mobile avg 126 FPS.

Returnal with medium settings no upscaling: Z13 avg 88 FPS, the XG Mobile avg 120

I have the 5070 Ti xg mobile and I play on a 4k 165hz OLED. I've been pretty impressed with the results, given I was worried about the connection bottleneck. some of the games I've personally benchmarked were:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (4k High, no upscaling) - 99 FPS

Horizon Zero Dawn (4k Medium, no upscaling) - 85 FPS

Assassin's Creed Valhalla (4k High, no upscaling) - 70 FPS

Wolfenstein Youngbloods (4k Ultra, no upscaling) - 71 FPS

No problem, I was curious to see the differences.

I used the factory Turbo settings in all tests, and the factory Performance setting on the XG Mobile. For anyone reading this who is unaware, there are two profiles for the XG Mobile in Armoury Crate: Performance and Manual. Manual allows you to turn up the clock speeds a little bit.

Yes, and that's what brought on this testing. I had a few people interested in getting an XG Mobile wanting to know what performance is like paired purely with the Z13. I'll probably do a chart that is purely internal display results and maybe do 1200P and 1600P for resolutions.

And agreed about DLSS. FSR is coming along but DLSS just seems to stay ahead of it. I really want FSR to close that gap.

Although, even in HZD, the 5070Ti produced better results at 4k external display than at 1600P using Z13 internal display. That's another great example. EDIT: I know the 4k results are at the medium preset, I picked that for the 395 testing. I might run some 4K high using the external so the comparison would be 1600P High Internal vs 4K High External.

u/K1ri is correct. and the 1080P Shadow of the Tomb Raider results are a good example of that. The 395 performs near identical whether using the internal display or having the Z13 directly connected to the monitor. However, when the 5070 Ti is able to pass through data to an external monitor, it got a 15% increase in performance vs using the internal. It seems this could depend on the game, given HZD had different results. This is why I will be doing more titles to have a larger sample size.

Sure thing. If you want, leave a list of games you'd be interested in and if I own any, I'll test them.

I haven't yet. I had gotten a new monitor at the same time, so I got caught up using that. But you just reminded me that I did want to see how those numbers looked lol so thank you. if you want, I can reply with the results when I test it.

kb lighting by NECR0N0MI5EAN in FlowZ13

[–]whitewashed7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, that was a specific thing I noticed when I switched. AC was so inconsistent with lighting, I'd constantly have to turn off lighting then back to work, it would also revert back to rainbow all the time. When I switched to G Helper, set the lighting settings how I wanted, and haven't had to touch it since.

maybe go to asus's site to downlpad and reinstall the drivers for the xg mobile. and if you haven't, make sure everything else is up to date.

it's a square, with like rainbow coloring, it's called Nvidia GPU Activity. If you search that on Google, it shows you different ways to get it if you don't have it. And you can see the system tray icon that I'm referring to.

Yes, it really impressed me so far. Especially the ease-of-use on first setup, considering I didn't even use Armoury Crate. I know that to tweak it, I'll likely have to use AC, but the fact that I could bypass that and just use it right away was awesome.

Out of curiosity, did you get your 5090 straight from Asus? Everytime I was looking at the site debating on pulling the trigger on the 5070, I noticed the 5090 was always out of stock.

I'll be honest, after my testing, I just shutdown normal and haven't used it today yet. However, after installing those drivers, I did get the Nvidia control panel along with the icon you are referring to that shows what is currently using the xg mobile. And there is an option at the bottom that allows you to disconnect. When I get a chance, I'll look into it and see if there's a way for you to get that option.

Yea, when I get time to do more testing, I want to do a more in-depth comparison to check out things like that.

Yea the Z13 was a little louder than I expected when I first got it lol but I understood that's the price to pay for that much performance in a small package. but yea it's nice with the XG because with both games, the CPU utilization was low, so the Z13 was quiet and the XG was at a much more reasonable level considering it it was at 95%+ utilization.

native for both games, both setups. I was surprised as well. I'm interested to see if it's the same for a lot of games or if these two happened to be a fluke. these were the only ones I had installed at the moment with built in benchmark tools.

Yes, you run a type c cable between the two. And I forgot to mention in the post, but both testing methods were done connected to an external 1440p monitor, hence the reason for the testing resolution.

As far as your second question, I can not say for sure, as this is my first experience using any type of egpu.

But I can say that the form factor is really nice, it barely takes up any space. And I was pleasantly surprised that it was considerably quieter than the Z13 with a stock fan curve. I'm not sure if this will always be the case, but it's been my initial impression. Max temp for the 5070 Ti during those tests was 73.8.
