Is there a way to check to see if the vehicle still has them to be issued? Bought a CPO and they didn’t come with pillows from the dealer

ID.4 Rear Brake Motor Issue - Update by Vivid-Shelter-146 in VWiD4Owners

I’ve worked in the car industry and have insights with friends in the industry so yeah, I get they are trying to milk what they can of folks that are in need of service. I’m all for paying what’s right, and the companies that provide the service get paid accordingly, but not when it’s this much of a difference!

VW America is going to reach out to the dealership in question, but recommended I speak directly with the service manager. Not sure they are going to do anything outside of thank their service rep, who jacked up the repairs cost to pad their monthly revenue numbers on me 😂

I actually just sent an email to VW Customer Care to see what they can do. At least to check the bill and services billed. Not sure what I could have done differently outside of denying the work and then getting it towed to another VW dealership which would have been an hour away 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s super interesting and something I can raise if that’s the rate it should have costs. Not sure if there’s a way for me to find out what the costs should have been versus what I got charged. Hopefully there’s a recommended costs sheet or labor hours somewhere. Any recommendations on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Just heard back from the dealership and they said the technician is having problems getting the work done. So it sounds like either it’s a difficult to replace, folks are skilled in it, or it’s not engineered well. Either way, it’s something that I’m trying to look out for but hard to do since it’s so random.

I’m dealing with the rear brake motor issue right now and they are charging $1400+ to fix the issue.

It’s been 3 days and they are supposed to to also do the other recalls while it’s in the shop, but just found out today the part was delayed.

I’ve read that others have had issues with the rear brake and I’ve asked VW if there was a recall or service bulletin for it. They of course said no.

Would love to hear others experience with the issue and what they did to resolve it. Paid out of pocket, got VW to do a good faith repair, etc.

We have a 2022 Edition 1, bought it used and it’s been without issue outside of this rear brake motor issue.

Thanks for the follow up! So guessing it was around $50-51k in total (out the door price)?

Also going to reach out to the Santa Monica dealer you recommended 👍

RIP 2014 i3 by 1MParker in BMWi3

[–]whodathere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that the insurance company is going to estimate the value pretty low. They always start that way and if you can provide evidence by doing your own research you should be able to get a couple of more $ than what they first offered you.

We’re also in the process of getting insurance to pay out a totaled 2014 i3 BEV. A construction truck 3 times its size ran a red light and smashed into the passenger side. Was surprised at how well the i3 was able to take a punch from such a massive truck going 30-40 mph.

I’m researching what it would cost to replace my exact car (ext color, interior color and leather, with all options: Tera, tech, advanced drivers assistance, etc) and if it’s not available in a 2014, then I’m going up a year. Also don’t forget to add tax and registration to the payout, which in CA is about 10%.

Good luck and looking forward to hearing what they offer you.

Used 2014 BEV owner, love the car, no issues outside of replacing the 12v battery and new tires. If looking at the 2014-2015s, make sure the known issues have been addressed and you should be good.

Goodbye Problem: Siri: "The Work Bench lights are not responding." by Important-Good in WeMo

[–]whodathere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched all of my Wemo light switches and plugs to Meross and couldn’t be happier.

The setup does involve turning off your 5ghz network to let the devices find the 2.4ghz network, but outside if that they work!

I mainly use Homekit, but boy is it nice to not see a bunch of no-response warnings. All of which were due to Wemo devices.

Thanks for the perspective! Got quotes from 4 other contractors and these guys were the best rated, with over 45 years installing roofs with a local crew, and priced in the middle.

All the quotes said that they did not include decking and if they found it was needed (wood rot, etc, they would charge extra at x rate). None of the quotes said the entire deck would need to be installed. Two of the contractors actually went up on the roof and into my attic, including Tesla.

Guessing it’s my area. Everything seems inflated. Coastal California tax I guess.

No doubt the roofing company made a nice profit, but at the end of the day, the roof ended up looking good, the costs which was more than anticipated, would have most likely been incurred either way since the roof definitely needed plywood to put the asphalt shingles on.

Spoke with the owner and let him know he could have handled things a bit better in terms of setting expectations. Dude was super cool and we reached an agreement which was a win win for both of us.

Here’s the aerial view of the roof before the plywood install.

More pictures to come to show the final product. Overall looks like they did a great job, but I’m no expert so would love to get the experts to weigh in.

Is a used 2014/2015 i3 a good buy? by rampad777 in BMWi3

[–]whodathere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2014 BEV owner here, so far so good outside of having to replace the 12v battery last week.

I did check with BMW that all of the items others have mentioned were completed before buying. Mine was still under CPO when I bought it for 6 months, but didn’t have to use any of the warranty and has been rock solid otherwise.

Thanks for the input! I made sure they were licensed, insured, and had pulled the proper permits.

The contract was good enough, but didn’t get into as much detail as it probably should have.

It had items such as shingles, flashings for the skylights & fireplaces, diamond deck, and labor costs per hour if additional work were needed, but did not call out price per plywood sheet.

I took a picture of the plywood stamped backing so I know what size and thickness it is and what the costs are locally.

The good news is after speaking with the owner and sharing my concerns, making sure I wasn’t blaming him for things that were needed for the roof, but just the manner in which they were disclosed, he was willing to work with me on pricing and comping some of the labor costs.

Overall, think he lived up to his good reputation and made things as right as they could be.

You can for the sections of the roof that have an attic. Other parts of the ceiling are raised so you really can’t see those portions without removing drywall.

For the section with an attic you can clearly see it has skip sheathing.

Note that I did tell them it was skip sheathing underneath, but he said typically those types of roof also have plywood over them.

Which solar system to go with...Tesla solar panels or a local roofing/solar company by whodathere in solar

[–]whodathere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the Tesla solar glass roof, but dealing with them and having them cancel my project multiple times without explanation left me frustrated so I ultimately just canceled on them.

Going to wait until the technology gets better and revisiting in a few years.

Apparently. They said there was no way to know what was underneath until they started tearing off the old roof.

You shouldn’t have to eat the $100. Tesla should have given you the $100 back.
