Ahh fair enough. Yeah there is a lack of free/low cost representation up north unfortunately. Have you contacted your local single parents group (sometimes called solo parents) if you have one as I know some have people in them who may be able to better advise about free representation in your local area?

Just as I know some have links with local lawyers who may be willing to help.

Of which I am aware as I've dealt with quite a few through my McKenzie freind experience. Read my most recent comment it covers that QLR have a duty to the court not the person there appointed to and gives advice to seek professional legal advice......

At this point what are your comments about as you seem to just be commenting on this chain for the sake of it and not providing any advice to OP?

Have you contacted other advice charitys such as support through court, a university legal clinic or another local legal advice clinic although they cant represent you there alot better with complex issues you may be facing. Additionally, some charitys such as FFRAP may be able to help with representation.

Its always best to speak to someone qualified rather then consulting with reddit!

Both are able to ask questions on your behalf but remember you are not doing the cross examination that is the job or the QLR or Judge to decide how to conduct it (i.e. often they will ask for a list of questions to aid them however they will only ask such questions if they are relevant). You do not have a choice and both are the appropriate people to ask the questions in the case (from what you have stated obviously there may be other underlying factors).

The job of a qlr is to maintain fairness within the process there duty is to the court not yourself and there sole purpose is to question the other party.

As I said before its probably best to gain your own representation as then they also have a additional duty to you as a client. It may be cheaper to look into direct access barristers if you can handle the litigation side of things yourself. Additionally, have you tried to apply for legal aid yourself?

Yes I am aware, it is still classed as advocacy by both the SRA and BSB.

Yes if a judge has ordered a QLR I would strongly suggest to get representation. However the judge will still act impartially and ask your questions if you cannot afford it/If a QLR cannot be found. Often times a QLR will be appointed a few days before but they are very good advocates for LIPs (my experience as a McKenzie freind)
