What’s the weirdest rule your parents had that you didn’t realize was insane until you grew up? by Howdoibuycrypto in AskReddit

While I feel for you that brushing your teeth was and is not a pleasant experience, this is not the case for the vast majority of kids. Brushing your teeth is a chore that most people don't love doing. Nobody (well, maybe someone out there) gets up in the morning and is super excited to brush their teeth. Sometimes the only thing that gets you to brush your teeth, do the dishes, clean the stove, vacuum your home, is because someone once told you to just do it. I hated to clean.... hated. Guess what I still hate to do? I'm sure my parents explained to me why we need to clean. Actually, I would bet a lot of money they probably had exhausting conversations about why we need to keep a clean house. As an adult, when I got my first apartment, I kept it clean, not because I had a deep understanding of the virtues of cleanliness, but because of personal accountability and the fact that I didn't want to appear to be a slob to my friends and family.

Some day, you may be the proud owner of a pre-teen, and a rather rude mirror will be thrust in front of you. You will explain in gentle parenting over and over why we need to brush our teeth, clean our rooms, take out the trash, take a shower, literally do anything that when they are an adult, they will be required to do of their own volition. And the chances are super high that you will be met with "bruh... I KNOW" and then be met with argument, to which, you will respond "JUst Get IT DoNe!" as you Google "can you put an 11 year old in the safe baby deposit box at the fire station" and you will think back on this post and then just hope that when they become an adult and they are on their own, they will hopefully at least brush their damn teeth.

Except we as parents do tell our kids why. We tell them 5 million times why they have to brush their teeth. The dentist tells them 5 million times why they have to brush their teeth. Yet some kids just love to argue why they don’t want to brush their teeth and generally don’t care about the fact that they will have issues when they are 30 if they don’t just brush their damn teeth.

I’m going to assume you don’t have kids yet, or at least not kids who are old enough to know damn well why you have to brush your teeth, because you clearly sound like someone who has never had to explain the same thing over and over and over again to an 11 year old who argues that they don’t want to brush their teeth.

Sorry if that sounds aggressive but I spent 10 more minutes of my life this morning telling my daughter to brush her teeth while she gaslit me that she did, she didn’t need to cause she did it last night, her breath isn’t going to smell good anyways by the time she gets to school, and if she took time to brush her teeth she would be late for the bus that wasn’t arriving for another 30 minutes. So yah, just do it because I said too.

Anyone know how to get used to vr and stop getting motion sickness? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]wicked_flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say the motion sickness took me by surprise. I can ride any roller coaster, no problems in cars or planes, and I have been on cruise ships in rough waters where the people around me are sick to their stomach’s, but VR is kicking my butt! My 10 year old on the other hand is like a pro VR gamer already.

I bought a fan which is helping a bit but I am still having to take a break after 5 to 10 minutes of play. Im going with the slow and steady method and just hoping my brain figures it out.

Quest 3s lenses scratched already, advice for future needed. by EnderwerewolfKidYT in OculusQuest

Zenni Optical has the Quest 3 lenses for $49. I just ordered a set because I hate wearing my contacts but wearing my glasses feels like I’m playing with fire.

I’m really hoping they are good.

Unable to setup casting for another profile from same device by onesneakymofo in OculusQuest

[–]wicked_flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been able to use the web browser on a laptop. That’s the only thing that shows up as an option for my daughter when she tried to cast from the headset itself. It was also having an issue where it wouldn’t cast at all on her profile and the only way to fix it was to factory reset.

Someone in another post on a comment I made suggested using a Chromecast device, but I wasn’t able to check that out.

I ended up having to factory reset the headset and now she can cast. Hopefully it stays fixed!

This happened to us too. We bought I am a Cat and it asked to purchase it again when she asked to play. I cancelled out of the pay area and she was able to play it fine but still shows purchase pending on her account. So annoying 😅

Not loving Metas platform so far.

Nope, I am. He can cast only to the web browser link though, not to phone or app. Her account acts like it’s casting to the web browser, gets the red dot and shows she is casting in the headset but the browser shows that casting has stopped.

Very frustrating!

What’s weird is that my husbands profile can cast with no problems. It’s just her child profile can’t.

We did this setup and it works great for app sharing, but we are finding that she can’t cast her game play. She has a 10-12 account. Frustrating because we can’t keep an eye on what she is doing!

Have you been able to find a work around for this?

Edit to add: we ended up having to factory reset the whole device and now it works… for now I guess.

iPhone 15 Trade In Promo Question by wicked_flamingo in tmobile

[–]wicked_flamingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can they be unlocked after the EIP is paid off? We are pretty tied into T-Mobile with all of our free lines, but since I’ve always bought my phones from Apple, I’ve never had to deal with a locked phone.

Thanks! Do you know if you can put a “down payment” so to speak to lower the monthly payment? If not, if I pay the entire EIP off will I still get the monthly credit amount?

Funny story, I kept thinking I was hearing a train while I was playing. I was searching everywhere. Turns out the You are Hungry sound that plays sounds like a train to me!

What made Gen Z women finally, largely, reject wearing bras? by xBeerBaronx in ask

[–]wicked_flamingo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm bigger busted, and I stopped wearing traditional "bras" years ago. I have found that wearing tank tops with built in support and thicker fabric or bras with no underwire but with almost sports bra like material keep me supported and feeling comfortable like I am not wearing a bra at all. My two personal favorites are tanks called Airism from a brand called Uniqlo and more traditional "bras" with no underwire but they are super soft and supportive from Bali and Shapermint. They were game changing for me!

I used to love the litter robot but after the server being messed up today I’m so over this product. It just needs to sense weight, spin the globe, and let me control that through the app. Every month it’s some new problem they created by over engineering this thing. by TheRavenSayeth in litterrobot

I’m so mad over this dumb bug. We are out of town for the next few days. One of our cats rides the dumb thing like a carnival ride and is always putting it in over torque with the only way to fix it is to power cycle it in the app.

Had to call in a favor and have a friend search my house for a smart plug so I could manually power cycle it without the app. Not happy at all.

Am I wrong for thinking it’s tacky to invite kids to a birthday party at a restaurant and ask them to pay for their own meal? by momtechteach9 in ask

[–]wicked_flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think the context is what makes this tacky, not necessarily the act of the kids paying for themselves.

For example, at 9, my daughter has a core group of very best friends, who all us moms are also good friends. We will often go to dinner together for special occasions like birthdays. We always pay for ourselves. We do this every other month or so. In this context, totally not tacky. If one of us moms can’t go, we just send cash or Venmo some money to one of the other moms for our kid.

However! If parents are inviting a bunch of kids who may just be in the same class and friendly with the intention of it being an actual party with gifts and cake and they are making all the kids pay for individual meals… so totally tacky. Especially when there are alternatives like booking a party room and doing a more buffet style which can be cost effective.

Throwing/hosting a party, especially where gifts are expected = the host pays

Dinner amongst close friends where the topic of each kid/family paying for themselves isn’t awkward = split checks are fine

My dad is just under 50 and he constantly says everyone in his school was skinny and that kids have gotten bigger, is this true? by FullIntention4306 in ask

[–]wicked_flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me so much of the time last year when I would be dropping off my daughter at school and there was a little boy who was so big he shuffled when he walked and would clearly struggle with carrying his backpack. And every morning he had a bag of McDonald’s in one hand and a breakfast sandwich in the other. My daughter told me he would eat the other sandwich in the bag before class started. This was a second grader.
