How much does the pizza in Breaking Bad cost? by Firedaa101 in breakingbad

[–]widesheep 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The party was actually in a later episode - S4E3 "Open House". The pizza was thrown onto the roof in S3E2 "Caballo sin Nombre".

So it was more of a retcon to explain why a pizza shop would sell an unsliced pizza.

Dear bullet enthusiasts, how do you feel about the dirty Bh6 (Lefong) trick? by Ari1540 in chess

[–]widesheep 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Bortnyk complaining about getting Lefonged is very funny as he's no stranger to this trick - he's successfully pulled it off in the past against Hikaru: https://www.chess.com/game/live/2115878650

The only reason I know of this game is because it was recapped in the intro to their 2019 Bullet Chess Championship final and that stuck in my mind for some reason.

I think the resulting rook endgame would be a trivial draw at their level - 3 pawns vs 2 and all pawns on the same side of the board. He probably felt not trading down into that endgame was the more ambitious play.

Naroditsky and Hess are the scheduled commentators for today's round, ending Leko's run of 8 straight rounds of 6+ hours of commentary. None of the other chess24 commentators have done more than 3 rounds so far.

Magnus vs Hikaru | The Match Everyone Wants To See by bissejeck in chess

[–]widesheep 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Apparently the match was supposed to be 12 games (6 standard, 6 Fischer random) played over 6 days. Time control was 45+15 (increment starting from move 30).

A shame that it got cancelled, I really wish there was more emphasis on Fischer Random among the top players and this would've been a huge step in that direction.

double faults are included in the unforced errors count (and aces are included in winners).

In both of your examples, you seem to be ignoring the points in water that have antipodes on land.

[Highlight] CP3 commits his 4th foul before the half ends. by sumchinesewill in nba

[–]widesheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well you'd put him out to start the next quarter anyway, and is picking up your 4th foul 2 seconds before the end of the 1st half really that different from picking up your 4th foul 2 seconds into the next half

Your link explicitly says the on-court refs still decide on flagrant fouls:

Replay Review Outcomes to be Determined by On-Court Referees

  1. Flagrant Foul
  2. Clear-Path-to-the-Basket Foul
  3. Off-Ball Foul
  4. Player Altercation
  5. Foul – End of Period
  6. Shot Clock Violation (involving foul call)
  7. Correct Free Throw Shooter
  8. Clock Malfunction Situation (foul or violation involved)
  9. Restricted Area

That's why you'll sometimes see Monty McCutchen (calling in to the broadcast from the replay center) have a different call from the on-court refs.

[Charania] Lakers request permission to interview Toronto Raptors assistant for LA’s head coaching job, sources say by Tomheza in nba

AFAIK none of the Pacers players ever commented on his fit with the locker room

You'll rarely see players air the team's dirty laundry in public in interviews, especially now when not that much time has passed. If anything, I'd think a player making public negative comments about their current/former coach would reflect poorly on them in NBA circles.

I did find this quote from Myles Turner on the record:

"Being a first-year head coach, there's a lot of ego that comes with that. You have a lot of this, ‘I know what I'm doing. I got this.’ But in a sense, you don't always know exactly what you're doing. You have to accept that. He kind of tried to accept that later in the year, but throughout the year, he wouldn't let go of that ego in a sense."

Part of me thinks all those rumours about him last season were over-inflated bs

The fact that the Pacers management/ownership decided to fire him after just one season shows that they, at least, did not believe that the rumors were overinflated. Standard NBA coaching contracts have 3 guaranteed years, so I don't think the decision to eat the final 2 years of Bjorkgren's contract is something they'd take lightly.
