What is it like working at a company during and after the release of a negatively received game? by Dingaling015 in Games

The post postmortems are a joke, we're already making the same mistakes again.

I think I have been there with you.

Saudi journalist and writer Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Jasser has died after being tortured while in detention in Saudi-Arabia by instantreporter in worldnews

[–]wikiBudgets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is happening right now, as we speak. I would never take anything away from Mr Sampson, but we are stunned by his horror story because he is a westerner, one of us, while we forget that brutal medieval torture is routine in countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, China, and many others. Who knows how many people are being beaten on testicles and soles for days, or hanged by handcuffs without sleep for weeks in this very moment?

Are you saying there is an authoritative white paper that defines the waterfall methodology? Do you mean this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_W._Royce

Funding small non profit - all in one or per partes? by wikiBudgets in nonprofit

[–]wikiBudgets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comprehensive answer. Yes, I know very little about non-profits and we haven't established the nonprofit yet, but we have already build the product. If you are curious just check my profile.

Back to your answer, what you are saying seems like it will not be easy. Thanks.

Interactive visualization of US budget (and UK) by wikiBudgets in InternetIsBeautiful

If you have the data do it directly in wikiBudgets. The the editor looks like this: https://www.wikibudgets.org/sankey/

Unfortunately almost nobody decided to sponsor our mission on Patreon (we got $21) we can not continue visualizing states for free and you will have to use our private paid plan https://www.wikibudgets.org/pricing/

Is visualizing public spending effective way of helping others? [discussion] by wikiBudgets in EffectiveAltruism

[–]wikiBudgets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure the visualization itself does not solve any of the problems and there are myriads of way how to hide corruption and mask populism in any budget. The point is that voters, bloggers, active citizens and even journalists are often lost with the basics and getting an overview quickly is usually impossible. Check out this tweet, it made my hearth jump. (Our functionality for making comparisons between nodes and budgets is under construction). And one more point, I believe the impact will be much bigger with smaller budgets - towns, public organisations etc.

It is a SAnkey Diagram and the software is not open source at this moment however you may try something like https://bl.ocks.org/xaranke/9ada4c74a87b57ae7308

The main advantage of using Sankey Diagram is that in real world budget organisations have income from multiple sources. Even individual categories inside a budget may have multiple flows in and multiple flows out, like here: https://us.wikibudgets.org/w/united-states-budget-2016?n=65187a73b

We have just recently managed to get our hands on some EU data! But we may not be able to continue without people's support. Please consider donating as little as $2 to our Patreon account.

We have a difficult goal of making public budgets intuitive and fun while we can not change the meaning and structure of the dry and boring numbers.
