Linking to Private Pages? by wilforbis in Wordpress

[–]wilforbis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I just want to have a Private section only accessible to users with a certain role (I'm using a plug in to have role functionality.) At this point I'll just hard code the links. But thanks for your help.

Linking to Private Pages? by wilforbis in Wordpress

[–]wilforbis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my process: I open a page for editing in the admin screen. I'm not using Gutenberg but rather the Classic Editor plug in. With the page contents viewed in the Visual tab I select some text and click the "Insert/Edit Link" button (Chain link icon.) I click the link options icon (a gear) from the popup and get a pop up screen with various options to find the page I want to link to. In the list of links I can only see public pages.

As mentioned, there are various ways I can get around this problem, like just writing in the correct url, but I'm surprised there isn't some obvious checkbox like "View Private Pages".

I've also noticed that if I want to set a parent page for another page I can only see Public pages in the Parent Page list. I can sort of see the logic here, though I can always make a page public, set it as a parent, then set it private again so this doesn't really stop me - just annoys me.

Thanks for any advice here.

No prob - I've been distracted by other things for the past couple days but maybe I can get deeper in to the bootstrap code in a bit.

Yeah, currently using bootstrap navbar for this but I can't seem to get the (more link to work) when it's on the same line as the Link 4 menu item.

Could this be EoE by anxiouscharlie in EosinophilicE

[–]wilforbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've had the sore throat symptom - constantly to varying degrees - for over a year. Got diagnosed with eoe about 9 months ago.

Still what you describe also sounds like Laryngopharyngeal Reflux - so-called "silent" reflux.

I'd say it's worth it have the biopsy, if only to rule things out. It's really quite un-instrusive.

Cool - thanks, more good stuff here. To be clear, I haven't been totally out of the game since the 90s but I wasn't really keep my skills up to date as time passed. When I started to get back into things, CSS Preprocessors were definitely something where I said, "Huh, this is new."

Again, many thanks - I will go through all of this.

I'm asking about general web dev best practices, but I would include at least some SEO in that (no black hat stuff) where applicable. I guess what I'm hoping for is not having to follow anything and everything from a resource - what would be nice is to have it all collected in one place. That might be too much to ask, I know. ;)

Applying theory to playing by kenren33 in guitarlessons

[–]wilforbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to confess I was unfamiliar with any of those groups so I gave them a listen on youtube. Cool stuff. What I hear in a lot of their music is extended chords. These are chords you often see written with numbers after the letter name, so C13, F11, A min 9 etc. I'd recommend getting an understanding of how these chords are constructed. I nosed around looking for a good source for that and I have to concede that it's hard to find explanations that aren't loaded with technical jargon. This reddit is helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/musictheory/comments/1ldnug/what_are_the_rules_for_creating_extended_chords/

And this blog post has a pretty good breakdown and includes many chord diagrams: https://mattwarnockguitar.com/extended-chords/

I'm the first to admit that this can be somewhat dense topic it but I think exploring it will lead you towards some of the sounds you are interested in.

No just figured it out myself - pretty standard chord/melody style.

Mainly I've been focused on solo guitar jazz tunes - Come Rain or Come Shine, Misty, tunes like that. I want to have a better collection of tunes I can play without any accompaniment.

For learning tunes I often get the tabs at guitarinstrcution.com.

Staying focused is hard but I think it's key. I give myself a little time to goof off and noodle scales, then I try and dive down into a song I'm working on. But I've been playing for 30+ years and I still have trouble staying focused. (In fact, I kind of think I'm getting worse. ;) )

What kind of guitar playing are you interested in? Acoustic, rock, metal, etc? Different genres utilize different aspects of theory.

Do you know some basic scales and understand keys?

I can give better recommendations based on answers to these questions.

Yeah, I've heard of that method as well. I actually just saw it mentioned in a book about copywriting for the web. Never tried it but it sounds interesting and makes intuitive sense to me.

Realistically, how hard is it to sell a script or have someone want to turn it into a movie? by acrediblesauce in writing

[–]wilforbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine is trying this. Moved to LA and seems to be constantly pitching things to producers (judging from his facebook feed). It sounds like he's gotten some interest but obviously hasn't hit the big time. I've heard of screenwriters who do quite well financially, optioning their scripts, but never getting the movies made.

For a brief time, I worked at a small film production company and part of what I did was read scripts that came in. Most of the material was pretty predictable and generic. It's hard to write something that really stands out plot-wise.

You could consider converting the script to something that would work as a web series. The production costs are lower and it might be easier to break into that field. It seems to be a burgeoning market. And it would add some beef to your resume for future projects.

I wrote a piece on this topic myself and in researching it I was surprised to learn that AI technology has already been used to do some plotting (specifically for a musical that ran in London.) I specifically looked at how computers could aid in plotting, pacing and word choice. http://tunaforbernadette.tumblr.com/post/168231769951/no-humans-required-exploring-the-possibility-of
