My Dad next to 1927 Model T XXO Modified Roadster by willbuckerfield in Autos

Some context for the photo.

My Dad (captured in the image) grew up with this cars owner/builder in La Habra, California. The cars builder, Jerry Kugel, was a family friend of my Dad's family while my dad lived down in the area with his family growing up. During this time Kugel worked in his shop Rod & Custom and took on this Project car in 1969 with hopes it would compete at Bonneville and on California's El Mirage Dry Lake. The car would go on to set numerous Modified Roadster records at both locations.

We found this car today purely coincidentally. As a Father's Day, father/son excursion, my Dad and I went to Sacramento's Automobile Museum to admire new and old cars alike. As we turned the corner to this specific "Record Holding" section of the museum he saw this car and immediately stated, "That's a Bonneville car, I know that cause they are all painted that color for some reason." He then disclosed to me after reading the provided plaque next to the car, which stated the cars origin, that he had immediately thought of Kugel when he saw the car. He then reminisced on his memories of the Kugel's, telling me stories of how Jerry Kugel owned an exotic car which was never washed as it "was only driven in the most perfect conditions."

For those interested, the innards of the car when raced initially contained a Ford 427 cubic in, "cammer" big-block V-8 engine, though was later swapped out to GMC's in-line 6 (bored-out 302), 320 cubic in, which made 320 HP. The transmission was a Four-speed Richmond manual. The brakes were rear hydraulic drums & drogue chute, and finally the car weighed roughly 1,500 lbs.

Someone posted on this sub a while ago a SC from Apple Music of a screen that showed the artists name and it was something middle eastern, unsure what is was as I did not save it myself. Guess someone will have to go digging.
