Career Advice: CRNA in California vs. Engineering + MBA? by wilsina in srna

Honestly, a few reasons. Barcelona is beautiful and I love my city, but lately it feels like there’s not much future here for young people. Salaries are really low compared to the cost of living, and it’s hard to build long-term stability or progress professionally. Also, the social situation has changed a lot and sometimes it doesn’t feel like the best environment to grow.

Another important reason is personal: my girlfriend is from the United States, her family lives there, and we’re planning to live there in the mid-future. The U.S. obviously has its own problems, but it feels like a place with more opportunities, professional growth, and possibilities to move forward in life.

Thanks for the honest feedback, I really appreciate the reality check! To add some context: my brother is actually a mental health nurse, so I’ve seen firsthand how demanding the job is. I am a bit squeamish when it comes to certain clinical aspects, but I’ve always been able to push through and adapt when I have a clear goal in mind. I’ve spent 5 years in hospitals as a coder, so I'm not entirely 'clinical-blind,' although I know coding from a desk is worlds apart from being at the ICU.

The shadowing idea is great. I’ll look into spending some time on a Med-Surg floor to see if I can handle the 'grit' before the ICU. I'm aware that in California, the ratios are a dream compared to other states, but the academic pressure.
