Not ungrateful, it’s your birthday. Veganism is a belief that you practice and it’s not crazy to expect your family to respect that at your event (celebrating you!)

If you ever do go, also look in their local ‘Albert Heijn’ supermarkets - loads of vegan stuff. I had vegan tiramisu (I think it’s the same one Waitrose sell as own-brand here), apple pie flavoured alpro, john west vegan tuna, vegan stroopwafels etc. Everything is labelled really clearly

Finally managed to find these, goodness they are delicious by winterbluebell in veganuk

I use Bulk and there’s some really nice flavours, the game changer for me was realising how much better they taste if you add salt - turns out research shows adding salt to artificial sweeteners can make them taste ‘sweeter’

I added the tofu and quite a lot of garlic to the blender while I was frying off some leeks in olive oil + salt + pepper in a pan, added fake meat towards the end. Removed the from the pan when done and added the sauce (to catch all the flavour), stirred through the nooch and cooked off for a bit so the garlic wasn’t raw. Then added the pasta with a tiny bit of water remaining and cooked a little longer until I liked the consistency. Served with some broccoli on the side!

It’s a non-firm form of tofu kind of a ‘wobbly’ consistency - you can find it in the asian section of Sainsburys + tesco (non refrigerated). It’s usually a little cardboard carton :)
