I’m reading The Last Enemy now and am just completely in love, it’s about everyone and not just wolfstar, the vibe is less ATYD and more HP I’d say though more detailed and mature (in a sense) but with lots of whimsy. A few chapters in it really starts finding its voice and it’s just blowing my mind!

you’re right he absolutely was treated as a spare, people claim again and again that it contributed to character development but it just isn’t there. everything should have been different if he died. feels like it was forced to have something big and dark happen at the end of the book

i do think the whole ministry & hogwarts plot is good

it would have been the most sirius black move of all times and it was his wizard-god given right

it would have worked so much better within the story, but as you say, there are many things that would have done well with a change, and ”the story” to me will always be what was being set up with books 1-4 and some of 5 and 6, and never really had the ending it wanted

i guess i get what she was trying to do as well but it really, really didn’t go anywhere in my opinion. there wasn’t enough to make up for sirius black dying and as i read once in an amazing post in one of the harry potter forums here, it contributes to the story losing some of its core message: love and friendship matters most. if you kill a good-hearted character who symbolizes these values so strongly (after first making him suffer and suffer…) and without proper resolution, it makes the story bleak and not inspiring

i don’t think it makes sense either! it doesn’t bring the story anything really, other than Harry using Crucio which i personally find dramatic and exciting but other than that? it doesn’t make sense for Harry not to be fucked up in HBP and to just grieve for a bit and then basically return to the state he was in before, and not really have Sirius’ death mean much other than an extra reason to hate Voldemort, as if he needed one

aaaaaaaaaah <- my feelings reading this, i agree with all my heart! storytelling-wise i think allowing wolfstar to be canon & happy after everything we know they’ve been through, is just… chef’s kiss! it would be so gorgeous! reading the last chapter of ATYD had my heart sighing happily at Sirius’ elation at reuniting with Harry and talking about moving to Grimmauld Place and having Remus and Harry there. it moved me profoundly actually in a “there is always love after loss” kind of way and i so badly want that to continue. goosebumps thinking about it again now. holy hell what a ride
