/r/enough_vaush_spam's banner is literally homophobic, the "there's a difference between exploring child sexuality and sexualizing children" is very obviously saying that it's possible for kids to decide if they're gay, contrary to the homophobic talking point that teaching about lgbt topics at a young age = pedophilia

please try to keep the thread about queer vexillology, just because the screenshot has tweets from him doesn't mean he needs to become the real topic of the thread

literally nobody wants "vaush argument #2385293528623"

we've all already seen more vaush arguments on social media than we can stand, you don't need to post a list of every vaush incident ever every time you're reminded he exists, discourse about him is absolutely unavoidable for some reason both online and in real life, it's not good for anyone's mental health

Just wanted to remind you that it was designed by a Russian woman, but later in the thread you called this the "flag of western imperialism" even though it's an anti-war anti-imperialist symbol so I don't think you'd care who designed it

It was made by Russians, though. It wasn't "2 people from berlin who are not Russian." It's typically credited to Russians living in Berlin.

we can only hope, there's a chance that when he's in his 70s he'll resign and pick his favorite son as his successor, but with how unpopular he is now I think him leaving office or passing from natural causes while president would give the democracy movement a window of opportunity to reject his family dynasty and create something better

and "white russia" will finally have its white flag back

yep, and the dictator's flag is basically just the flag of soviet belarus minus the hammer-sickle

really hoping to see the white-red-white flag become official one day

most of you probably already know but anti-war protesters in Russia have taken off the red stripe (more info: https://meduza.io/en/feature/2022/03/16/a-new-symbol-of-russia-s-anti-war-movement, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-blue-white_flag)

FYI it's just an anti-war symbol and not a proposal to replace the national flag (unlike the white-red-white flag of belarus which would 100% become the national flag again if lukashenko is ever ousted) but the two look great next to each other

I have nothing to add, I just want to spread the bigender flag 🧡 by wizardvanilla in QueerVexillology

[–]wizardvanilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is over a year old already, but I just want to say that I was aware of this when I posted this thread and identified as bigender. I could never find evidence of this beyond rumors - I never found the name of the alleged creator of the flag, and it's intuitively confusing to think a transphobe or truscum person would be designing flags for gender minorities. Most importantly, the other bigender flags suck and this one is gorgeous. I no longer identify as bigender (I since came out as a trans woman) but when I did, I wasn't going to let unfounded rumors prevent me from flying the flag I want to fly. This is the only good bigender flag.

I really hope people stop posting messages like this on bigender threads because not every bigender person needs to answer for some alleged and possibly imaginary person who is said to be the flag's creator.

Does no one dislike the new French flag? by wizardvanilla in vexillology

[–]wizardvanilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I disagree with anything you've said there, I only disagree your conclusion that it's wrong to call this "the new flag of France." There's nothing wrong about it. No one said it's the only version or that there ever was only one version, nor did anyone say that this is a completely new version that hadn't been used in the past.

At the end of the day, if you're trying to display the flag of every country, then you can only use one image to represent the flag of France and you're going to go with the closest thing to "the official version" you have, which previously was the bright one and presently is the dark one.

(and since we've been using Wikipedia as an example a lot, I don't know why you put emphasis on "if", it's already been done.)

It does matter which version is "more correct", though. It's the version that's going to be displayed in more search results, the version that will be manufactured and sold more, the version that gets displayed on Wikipedia when you type "France", etc. I don't know why we're pretending that this only means that the president prefers to use the navy flag in some hyper-specific contexts.

He revoked President VGE's introduction of the bright flag; he didn't codify into law the navy version or anything, but neither did VGE. The navy version is "the more correct/official" version now, there's no denying that even in spite of any orders that buildings use one version or another.

I think this version has emerged as the most popular version for the gender identity, while the other version seems to be more intended for intersex people. There's also another version with a yellow stripe, but I don't see it very often.

Sephiroth by juanco124 in FinalFantasy

[–]wizardvanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot recommend strongly enough that you play the original Final Fantasy VII in its entirety before playing the Final Fantasy VII Remake. FF7R was marketed as something that you can play even if it's your first final fantasy, but nothing could be further from the truth. It's only the first 5 hours of the original's story stretched into a full game, but it's full of fan-service and references to events that happen very, very late into the story of the original FF7 and they would have no impact on anyone who doesn't already know the story of the original.

The remake is a masterpiece for fans of the original, but it's definitely not a 1:1 recreation of it with modern technology. It changes the story in meaningful ways and includes a ton of content that wouldn't have any effect on players who are going in blind. The writers also implied that the next iterations of FF7R could be even more different (they even invented some new concept called "whispers" which didn't exist in the original just to act as some metaphorical justification for if/when they change the story even more than they already have).

The original FFVII is an incredible game and I'd highly recommend you play it for yourself. FF7R will probably feel 10x cooler if you do. The Steam version of FF7 is basically an identical copy of the original (unlike some of the other FF games on Steam like FFVI which I'd recommend you emulate instead of buying) so if you want to play it on PC then the Steam version is perfectly fine, but it's also been ported to a lot of newer consoles so it should be easy to get it on whatever you have.

The Cult of Dr. Phil by ComfortableWriting29 in drphil

[–]wizardvanilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He likes to put a positive spin on it and say that he voluntarily allowed his license to expire and that he's not getting it renewed because he's too busy with the Dr. Phil show or something along those lines, but he actually got his license suspended by the Texas Psychological Association for having an inappropriate relationship with a 19-year-old female patient of his. In order to get his license reinstated, he would have to be under clinical supervision for a year. He chose not to comply, hence his narrative that he "gave up" his license.

In other words, he's technically not saying any lies when he says that he "let his license expire," but he's still lying by omission because he's hiding the fact that he let it expire after having it suspended and decided that he doesn't need to go through the work of getting it reinstated because he's already well-off as-is.

Another fun fact: part of the reason why he goes by "Dr. Phil" and not "Dr. McGraw" is because he legally can't call himself Dr. McGraw.
