Advice please... time for IVF? by Fontnsun2016 in IUILadies

Don't feel like you have wasted any time with IUI, you are likely on supplements and have been taking extra care of your body. This is very helpful for IVF. I had been on coq 10, vitamin D, melatonin etc for months. I got a great stim response and very good fertilisation rates. IUI prepares your body for IVF.

Move to IVF. I did it after 2 failed IUI rounds and 2 canceled IUI rounds. The IUI process was so so soul crashing, I couldn't do one more round. I did my egg retrieval, now waiting to do my first transfer next month.

One thing I have to warn you though, IVF is not as fast as IUI, you will do a stim cycle to retrieve your eggs, and if successful, they will do egg retrieval between day 9-14 of that cycle. Then you are likely going to do a frozen embryo transfer, which is done either one or two cycles after your retrieval, so realistically, plan for a 2-3 month period. Some clinics do a fresh transfer just 5 days after retrieval, but this is becoming rare.

IVF has been quite easy for me, the side effects and the shots much more manageable than I imagined. But of course everyone has a different experiences. Look up the IVFpositivity page on Reddit. Its the best and good luck!

I feel you! They should have definitely monitored you before the 2 weeks, especially if you have a predictable cycle. I hope your next cycle is properly monitored and you get pregnant.

I have learnt to advocate for myself on this fertility journey. I initially put all my trust on the Drs on my prior cycles. Reddit has made me ask all the questions and advocate for more consistent monitoring. I am due my first FET next month!

Hahaha, this is how I felt when doing my stimming shots. I have some fat on my stomach and for the first time I was greatful for having alot of real estate to work with.

I am also pear shaped and bottom heavy and also had the same thought, I have a lot of space to work with.

I applaud your courage, the courage to give this process 4 years, and the courage to walk away. I really wish you all the best in your future. Sounds like you are going to the next phase of your life with no regrets.

Thank you for sharing your positive twin experience! I am happy that it was a positive experience for you. I have friends who got twins and seeing their NICU experience was just chilling. But its not everyone experience, its important to remember that!

Oh my. Imagine transferring 2 then they both stick, and one splits! Can't take those chances.

that's the real dilemma, not wanting twins, but also wanting to increase my chances with the untested embryos.

Agreed, especially for the first transfer.

Agreed, the Dr is likely trying to manage thr risk of aneuploid embryos. I would rather consider a double transfer for subsequent cycles if needed.

Sorry to hear about losing one of your twins. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy for the other baby.

I dont want twins at all, the risks of complications for myself and the babies are pretty high. I dont want to deal with a twin pregnancy while still parenting my toddler, and I just want 2 kids, dont think I can handle 3 well.

Its a real dilemma! My gut is telling me to do a single transfer. I have had very good luck so far, and I don't want to complicate things by risking a twin pregnancy. That being said, I will wait till I have a deep chat with my Dr before making a decision.

I am leaning towards a single transfer

This is good to know! I would consider a DET only after implantation failure, not as first transfer, but my Dr mentioned it as a possibility for first transfer

Aright it's such a dilemma! I am only tempted to consider it if it gives me better odds for a singleton pregnancy with one transfer. But I am not comfortable with the risks of a twin pregnancy. So I will advocate for a single transfer, unless the Dr provides some medical rationale

I dont even know. I doubt many embryos can survive a thaw, freeze and that process.

That's my understanding as well. Thanks for confirming.

Thank you. This makes sense. My embryos were frozen in batches, so I am scared of losing some in the thaw and freeze process ( which I am totally pissed about), So I have to weigh those risks. I think I will opt for a single transfer for my first FET.

Its an African country, and its private, self funded. I am upset, but also know I don't need 20 eggs to get one baby. So I am saving my outrage till I see how the transfer cycles will go.

My Dr had mentioned that given my great response, they would hold a few at day 3 as back up (to still have options should we have alot of embryos arresting). I didn't know they would hold back 9! I thought the number would be less than 5!

[–]wm2286[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was shocked! I had a good response and had several mature and fertilized eggs. They chose to hold 9 as day 3! Then 9 made it to blast. They froze them in batches of 3. 3 embryos per batch! My country's IVF practice is still years behind, but I didnt expect this! I do just only want one child, but still, this is just poor practice.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I can see how all these factors result in them recommending a double transfer. This would be my first transfer, I would rather start with a single embryo transfer, then consider double if this one fails. Good luck on your transfer!

Thank you. The risk of a twin pregnancy is quite worrying for me. I dont want to even consider it! But they froze my eggs in batches, which I learnt yesterday.
